Greek mythology tells of a man named King Midas who had the incredible ability/curse of when he touched something or someone it would be transformed into Gold. In this Tutorial I will show you how to do the very same thing, but in Photoshop of course.

To start off you will need to find the perfect picture. I will be using the image below. Feel free to follow along with it.

After you have the picture of your choice you will need to decide what it is you want to make into gold. In my picture I have chosen to do this to the statue. You are now free to use any selection method you would like, I used the "Pen Tool" and turned it in to a selection. At this time create a New Layer ( Layer > New > Layer) and fill the selection we made with black (Edit > Fill). Then name Selection. This is what it should look like

Now hide that layer (click the Eye to the left of the layer). The only reason for this is to speed up our work-flow. You can regain this selection any time you would like by Ctrl-clicking or Command-clicking the layer.
