The next step is to turn the three color layers into layer masks. One by one highlight first the Blue layer and click the "Add Layer Mask" icon at the bottom of the Layers Palette, which looks like this...

Several things will happen when you click the "Add Layer Mask" icon. First, a white rectangle will appear to the right of the thumbnail for the highlighted layer in the Layers Palette. Second, you'll notice that foreground and background colors change to black and white. And finally, to the left of the thumbnail of the highlighted layer in the Layers Palette you'll see a Layer Mask icon (gray square with a white circle in the center).

Now, in the Layers Palette highlight the Red layer. Repeat the same procedure as you did for the Blue layer. Click on the "Add Layer Mask" icon at the bottom of the Layers Palette. Repeat this procedure for the Gold layer.
