View Full Version : Color Output

Ok, let me see if I can word this question right. I'm having a color output problem with my PSCS. It seems to displaying the pics warmer (redder) than when I display them in IE. I create from two different computers. My home computer is only about 5 percent warmer. Home Monitor is a trinitron CRT. My work computer is about 25 percent warmer. Work monitor is a dell ultrasharp flat LCD. The PSCS view on both computors is indicated as: proof colors, checked and Proof Setup, Windows RGB. Is this something I just have to learn to live with and compensate for or can I make an adjustment somewhere to cool down the PSCS color output to better match IE?

So, you calibrated both montiors? Are you embedding ICC profiles in the images (from either computer)?

Yes, both monitors are calibratred. (Adobe Gamma through Control Panel) I did both monitors, so it is my vision that made the adjustments. So they should both be darn near equal in calibration.
Yes, both computers use an ICC profile in the save as options.

So the issue is how IE displays the images? Is IE set up to use ICC profiles on both machines? You have to tell IE to use the profile. Of course this is a little moot since you can't control what other users do and how they have things set up. Unfortunately, on the web, every machine is going to shift slightly through the browser and there is little you can do about it.
To turn on ICC profile use in IE go to the settings > Web Display and check the "Use Colorsync(TM)" option.

But I like how the pics look in IE, so I thought it was PS with the problem.
Any who, I can't seem to find the IE settings > web display.

hmm.. I'm at a loss on the PC version of IE. It's there somewhere.... I'll see if I can get an old PC to look at.
So.. you like the browser display better than the Photoshop Display?
Happy .... try a right click on the short cut icon in your toolbar ....

Yes, the IE display is much more pleasing. I wish I could show you a screen shot but you wouldn't see a representative of what I'm seeing in PS since you'd be viewing it through the browser. Hey, if I could afford it, I'd bring you guys to me. :)
The PS display is very much redder that IE display. Another thing I noticed today at my work machine that the preview in 'save for web' is non-red, equal to the IE display. I wish I could explain it better.

Try this website (http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps8-colour/ps8_1.htm) instead.

As far as I know, IE uses its own interpolation algorithm (you can turn it off). Things never look quite the same as when you have them as a PSD.

Does anyone besides me use Mozilla Firefox as a sub for IE?
Just curious.

Dave, Thanks again for my lesson of the day. I followed the directions step-by-step. Admittedly, something I usually don't do. Any who, my problem wasn't with the calibration but due to my ignorance. When I was originally opening the jpg files, I neglected to read the pop-up and would just hit ok. Well it wasn't okay. I've been working with psd files that didn't have an embedded color profile. When I saved them, I would embed a profile which is why they looked ok in the save-for web preview and in IE. Thanks again for the link.

ME! I've completely given up on IE. Especially with Firefox's BBcode extension and Mouse Gestures. Navigating has never been easier.
Plus I've noticed less spam, popups and intrusive advertising. Everything is an improvement. And did I mention how bloody fast it is? And the tabs....i can keep going here...

I tried Firefox and didn't like the text sizing. I use an 800 x 600 resolution...YES, 800 X 600...and the text on the websites was either way too big, or way too freakin' small. No matter how it was adjusted, it never looked just right.

What doesn't work there Jolt? I just tried and everything seems to work fine....
Maybe I missed something?
