Can someone give me a suggestion for the following please:
I just installed a Linksys WRT54G wireless 2.4 ghz Router to my Cable modem and added a Linksys WUSB54G USB Network adapter to my second Computer (yes, I have one in my Computer Room as well as my Living Room...plus a Laptop)
I attempting to access and share Printers and files from all three. So far, I can do email on all but accessing the printer and main files can only be done from the main system (the computer hard-wired to the router) Though I'm rather computer savvy, my weak point is networking.
Any help is greatly appreciated. :)
Oh, they are all running Win XP SP1 (the main computer is XP Home, the other two are XP Pro editions)
Thanks,
OK...I gotta visualize this to help out...is this right?
Cable Modem
-Wireless Router
--Computer Room Box (Ethernet Cable)
--Living Room Box (Wireless)
--Laptop (Wireless)
Where are the Printers/Files being shared from? All three? Or do you have a main share file?
Is Windows XP firewall turned off?
Are there any other firewalls installed anywhere?

XP Firewall is on. The printers and files are on the main box.
I uninstalled Zone Alarm Pro due to the suggestions from the Linksys Tech.
XP Firewall is a nightmare. It will not allow you to share printers and files and it creates unnecessary Bridges/networks from device to device.
What IP address does your Cable modem and Wireless router use? This one is gonna be easy...;)

PDG, thanks, I just sent you a private message with the IP.
I'll check back tomorrow....it's getting late here and I have to get up tooooo early :)
Thanks for the assistance!
No prob. Here is the foolproof way of getting everything up and running. I'm keeping it simple since you probably know most of this anyways. ;)
1. Remove XP Firewall from all computers.
2. Make sure all computers are on the same Workgroup name.
3. Reboot.
4. Make sure all computers are on the same subnet. I sent you a PM on this.
5. At this point, shared folders should be visible. If they're not, then there's a tiny little thing you're missing.
Right click the shared folder and click "Sharing". Make sure "Share this Folder" and "Allow users to change my files" are checked. Changes are immediate.
Last possibility...the Wireless router is not permitting Local LAN traffic through. You may need to open ports 445, and 135-139. But that is a LAST resort and not recommended. The router should be able to forward this traffic just fine.
Keep me posted on your progress. If it doesn't work, PM me the IP addresses of the 3 computers and wireless router.
