Unfortunately, for as long as there has been a news/media business (with photos/images/videos) there have been people who are willing to slant information to make "their" point or to use it without worrying about copyrights.
I have heard people complain on several forums about people taking images and/or pictures off of the web and using them in a manner that the owner would never have permitted.
If you create pictures/images/video and release it to a public domain, it is just a risk that goes with the modern world.
Also, when you sell an image, I don't think many agreements allow the creator/photographer to have editorial control in it's final use.

This puts legitimate photos into the same category of text journalism where quotes are taken WAY out of context to make a slanted point. I agree with the photographer.

It makes me wonder how many other photos we see in the media have been cropped or altered in any other way.
This also shows what cropping can do to totally change the mood or feel or meaning of a photo.
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and this article shows how the meaning of those words can be drastically changed by doing something as easy as cropping a photo!
