congrats on your win Happy, here is what the bug looks like..they live underground for 17 years,after immerging, they only live 48 hours..very loud at night.

cool pics jimt, they are large bugs and very interesting. I have seen a couple at work lately, at least I think they are the same.

...and if you sneak up on them and move real slow...you can catch them by their wings. I caught one earlier this year to show my kids.

When I was little I used to tie thread around them and fly em like a kite :lol: I always let em go after a short while...but I didn't know they only lived for 48 hrs.

What a great set of photos. I hate their high-pitched buzz that starts in August here. When I was small, my mother told me they will fly down and sew your lips shut if you lied, probably because they sound like a sewing machine. Good ole wives' tales. :yikes:
