How do you make text look like ice (I have a black background)? I am working on something for one of the contests and I just can't seem to do it. Help please!?

Hmmm... I've never actually tried but I think using the stylize->wind tool can be a good tool to start with...
You can search for something on tutorial search sites, there are links here:

I'll try and make something and see how it goes :D

If this is the sort of thing you're looking for, let me know.
Here is basically how I got this result:
1. Write something in a suitable font (I bet you can find something that'd fit. The one I used is called "BeachType". Write it in -white-.
2. Rasterize the text layer
3. Duplicate this layer, name one "rasterized_text" and the other "ice"
3. Rotate the canvas.
4. Use the wind filter on "ice". (so the wind lines would be downwards when we rotate the canvas to the original state.
5. Mark the ice layer, and Ctrl+Click the layer "rasterized_text", the hit delete to clear the actually text from the layer "ice". Now you have a layer with only ice on it.
6.duplicate the layer of "ice" and merge the two together.
7. Rotate the canvas to its original position
8. play with the colors of "ice" and "rasterized_text" and add a small bevel & texture to "rasterized_text".
9. If you want you can put a stroke with a small opacity so it would stand out a bit more (like I did when I put it on the white background).

If you (or anyone else) wants this tutorial with screenshots and more exact instructions, just ask ;)
Good luck :)

Wow! That's great! Thanks Nizz for the directions and thanks Dave for the link! Now I just have to mess with it and add it to my pic for the contest. I really appreciate the help.
