View Full Version : Turboz got married on Saturday
Member Turboz (aka Richard) got married on Saturday in Vilnius, Lithuania. A good time was had by all those that attended .... including me!
WARNING - images of ME may cause nausea .... :)
My camera mostly but not all taken by me - Click Me (http://www.flickr.com/photos/8820256@N07/sets/72157600746757992/)
Richard's camera mainly taken by Richard and his ex-boss Sebastien - Click Him (http://www.flickr.com/photos/turbozmr2/sets/72157600740401527/)
Richard and his bride are now in transit from London to Johannesburg for a 16 day honeymoon and camera fest.
and a video of another Lithuanian custom, this time the groom has to carry the bride over the river bridge ....

All the younger couples are supposed to join in so the best man who had to leave his wife at home with a new baby carried the bridesmaid over instead.

There were a lot of weddings going on on Saturday. Being the 7th of the 7th also makes it easy to remember in years to come! (That's what I thought when we got married on the 3rd of the 3rd back in 1973 ....)
The church interior was stunning especially the altar, sadly they didn't put the lights on and because it was raining heavily the lighting wasn't good. Hopefully the official photographer's images will show the church off better, he was doing a grand job of capturing 'the moment' as was the video taker. The hotel's banqueting suite was very smart, shame about the awful weather throughout the weekend, we didn't see the sun until we were preparing to leave on Monday.
The best man's wife had to stay back at home, their baby was too young to travel. But I'm sure someone will tell her about Thursday night's adventures in vodka ....

Congratulations on a great day, Dave. Lots of good photos taken by you all.

Thanks tuggie, trying to think "compose that photo" constantly gives a different perspective on the events .... that wasn't easy for a few reasons.

Wow what a beautiful place & Congratulations to Bride & Groom...they will have some beautiful memories forever captured :)
Congratulations Dave (And Richard of course, but I suppose it'll be at least a week before he sees this message :P)
The 7th of the 7th 2007 was a real 'special' day for many people. I've heard of a lot of people who got married on that day, went to a casino, or celebrated other stuff just because of it ;)
Also, what is that lock there's a photo of? Where did they lock it?
Also, what is that lock there's a photo of? Where did they lock it?
The lock has been placed on the railings of a bridge over a very fast flowing river (The Vilnia) in Vilnius, the key was thrown into the water ..... after Richard had carried his bride over the bridge first. As long as the lock remains in place their marriage will remain secure
It's a local tradition .... rather a good one too :)

Hmmm... Shouldn't that mean the bridge is flooded with locks?
I've heard of a similar tradition, I don't remember where though... There was this street-lamp which had hundreds of locks attached to it, and every year they took some off because the lamp started to bend :P
You would have thought so, there were quite a few padlocks on both sides of the bridge (and more than one bridge). I reckon they must cut them off when they go too rusty.
