There's a screen refresh update plug in for mac at Adobe. Get it here (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=39&platform=Macintosh).
It's said to increase screen redraw on Mac with less than a 1ghz processor and smaller amounts of RAM but makign the redraw tiles smaller. It did seem to help on my 1ghz G4 but not on my dual 2Ghz G5. if it doesnt' help youcna always remove the plug in from teh plug ins folder.
