I hate MS Word, but people love to send their artwork in it. Doe anyone know how to extract a bitmap image from a word document so I can use it in PS. I have seen word documents that print sharp, but if I simply click, copy to the clipboard and then paste in PS it is tiny. I know there is a high res file hidden in the document someplace.

I have even tried setting the document size to huge so I can resize the graphic in word to 100%, but when I copy and paste the 100% sized image into PS it ends up being small and only half there.

There must be a way to do it, but I can not figure it out. Did I mention that I hate MS Word?

Select, Copy > Go to Photoshop > New Document > Paste

Is what I always do. Photoshop should create a new document the size of the image by default. Simply set the ppi for the new Photoshop document to 300.

Alternatively you can print the Word Doc to PDF then open the PDF in Photoshop and crop to the image.

A Word question - something I can answer. :)

Open the word document. Right click on the image. Select format picture. Choose the 'Size' tab. Half-way down is the 'scale' selections. Check to see if the height and width is at 100%. If not change both to 100%. At the bottom of the 'Size' page shows what the original size was when the document was created.

You should then be able to copy to clipboard and then paste in PS.

I generally create an oversized New file in PS with the resolution set at 150 or 200 first in PS and then drag the image to PS. This seems to produce a larger image than cut/paste. Also, I mostly work with moving jpg images out of Word. I can't recall if the same results happen with bitmap images.

Edit to add: Somebody (Scott) types faster than me. Does MAC's word have different selection choices? With the PC (and Microsoft Word 2003) I don't get the the 'Go to Photoshop > New Document > Paste' command.

well no luck at least with the file I was using at work. I tried copying and pasting after changing the size to 100%. I still got a cut off image in the middle of a large transparent canvas. Not sure why.

I ended up opening the word doc in InDesign and then saved it as a PDF, opened it in Illustrator, selected the image copied and pasted into PS. It worked, but what a fiasco.

Word should be made illegal in the graphics arena. I'm not sure why the advice you guys gave did not work. Maybe there is something wierd about the original file ( I do not know much about object linking and embedding...possibly it has something to do with it.

and Happy, I think that by "Go to Photoshop" Scott means to change over to the program PS, rather than a command in word.

Thanks bunches guys. I will try these things out next time artwork arrives in a word doc, and if it never happens, it will be way too soon:)

I did mean move to the Photoshop Application :) Maybe it is different on a Mac. I can just copy and Paste between Word and Photoshop without issues.
