There's some fabulous stuff over there. There's one gallery in particular that I tend to look at frequently. It makes ME speechless. ;)

You're right...it isn't photoshop...and the images that come out of Illustrator absolutely amaze me! I'm sure if you need any pointers, Jolt would be more than happy to lend a hand. He's a master at it. :)

Yeah.. I notice people from PSC just registering at IW to vote for each other in the monthly contest though... not too cool if you ask me.

you have to be effing kidding me...he drew that? I don't think I could even take a photo that clean. So, excuse my ignorance, but did he ACTUALLY create that lettuce from scratch?

you mean people who dont participate in the contests? Are you only allowed one vote?

Nah, it wasnt' a real serious issue Chicken. This month was the first month they started a thread in their discussion forums and allowed members to voice who they thought should win. I notices dewking registering jsut to put a word in for Mezo.. kind of distasteful in a professional community. But not really a big deal. The final decision is still left to judges so, while it may bring mezo's work into view, it doesnt' really sway the final outcome too much.
My biggest concern was IW becoming a haven for poorly behaved individuals the way PSC can be at times or a clique site where you must "know" people to get ahead.. just like some other place we all know. Dewking just made me realize that could happen.

Yep...using Gradient meshes
Heres the line drawing for the Dalmation

so he created those meshes, or just coloured in the lines? Sorry, I really am ignorant! If he created the line drawing, well ... bugger me!

Basically BT... you start with a shape... you add a point in that shape that control how gradients are placed within the shape. So what Koji Masui did was that process over and over and altered the gradient that falls between each line in the piece.
Gradient meshes work like starbursts. The node or point controls the color then it blends outward from the point to the next color it comes in contact with. So every line had to be placed specifically and every node/point color had to be carefully chosen.
The photo-real mesh work is really incredible to look at, but.... not very practical. Generally the amount of hours put into creating something like that prohibits being able to actually work on it and get paid. You'll notice a lot of that type of art at IW is done by hobbiests and students, not the pros.

You know, I can't find the testicular transplant one, which actually really annoys me :( So here's a pretty much identical one but on Theileria parva...this was my 2nd attempt at vector art :) and is scaled down from it's full 1mx1.5m glory for your viewing pleasure

lol, come with a free mini-beverage also!
am still fuming that I deleted the testicular transplant one...maybe it's stashed on my laptop...the poor thing - it didn't like working with an image that big - nearly ran out of coal, and the hamsters were getting tired much quicker than usual!

It really is a case of 'look what I can do', I don't say that in a malicious way, it's just as Jolt says, highly impractical.
Ooops, this looks a bit out of place but I posted without looking at the last page :)
(and hey, people are posting again! Woohoo! The arcades must have worn off :))

nah. arcade was never a proper hook for me, it;s just my first exam was over today, so am on a posting spree...even posted 3 contests at one of the other sites. Decided I'd better try and do somethign adminly before they forget I exist, and that I'd better post something here before you all void my account! But, another exam on friday, so all quiet until then you'll be glad to hear. Have fun all.
What happened to Illustrator World? It's 404!

yeah it's been down since Thursday the 22nd.. no idea why. The web master over there (Todd) likes to mess with stuff. I have no doubt he's really broken something and is trying to find someone to fix it. This isn't the first time they've gone MIA for days.
