I've noticed a trend over the past few months. Old advertisements have deviated quite a bit from their historical roots. In an effort to get our attention, more and more interesting combinations of paper, design and media are being used. It almost feels like a circus side-show. These companies are willing to go to extreme ends just to get our attention. I'll be detailing three examples in this post.

This Miller Voting Ad has been running in recent issues of Maxim and Stuff. It suggests the proclaimed "King of Beers" was never elected by the people so it's providing Ballots. It obviously playing off the entire US Presidential election hype but the ballot itself grabs your attention. And the detail placed into it this almost makes it seem like a real Presidential voting ballot. It's a shame that damn letter is so long and contains such small type.

This one first caught my eye with the Stickers. Yes, those are actual stickers you can peel and paste. Upon reading the ad, though, I found it quite amusing. Had it not been for the sticker though, I never would have bothered paying closer attention. Lately, Molson's campaigns have been bordering on the hilarious end.

They actually included a Sponge with this ad. By running the sponge under water, it doubles in size and, thus, proves the Ad's point. Take notice of the attention to packaging. The portrayal of a Toy-Like Ad helps push several points across including playfulness and immaturity. Clearly directed at men
So there you have it. On one end I really like the creativity being conjured up to catch our attention. On another end, I'm really getting annoyed at having the pages "bookmarked" with these thick annoying additions and papers. It's nearly impossible to flip through a magazine without having the page flop open to the same Ad everytime. And if it's not an Ad, it's a damn Subscription card. Geez....
