I have seriously been considering upgrading my "toys" from the mundane CS to the very exciting CS2 et. al. :)
My question is, recently when researching prices for the above mentioned Adobe Suite at the B&H web site (many photographers etc. should be familiar with this company) I found this suite for a considerably lower price than professional retail, but it's for an Academic license? I couldn't find many details about the "Academic License" special on the site.
I understand that it's for students or educators, to get the pro level product at a lower cost...and appearantly it isn't an inferior grade - looks like it's apples v. apples here. Any PA member familiar with this? Has anybody made a similar purchase with the academic license? I'm affraid if I purchase it at this wonderful price ($648.95 US) it has some limitation or I will need to pay more $ after the license agreement expires ??
So if anybody REALLY knows the deal here, please tell me. This is a considerable savings over the retail value of $1,249.00 !!! Thanks for any info or replies to this post PA.

I know nothing about the students licence, but isn't there an upgrade to CS2 for $150.00 or there abouts?

Yeah, there is an upgrade for just PS CS to CS2....but I want to get the entire suite so I can play with premiere pro, AE, Illustrator, Audition etc. Sorry if I didn't really make that clear before, that's why I was saying "and others"
Thanks Tuggie for the upgrade suggestion.

I have the Academic Version of CS2. I was taking classes online at the time and invested in it. I found it for about half the price you did at www.academicsuperstore.com If you are a student or have a student in your household, you need a copy of their Student ID to purchase this. I ordered online and then faxed over a copy of the ID. As far as I know, there's nothing different.
There is one that has an Academic License which is less expensive than even the Academic Price/Version. That one is less expensive because you are only allowed to use it while you are still a student. I think it has something that you have to register it with your graduation date or soemthing like that.
Good luck :D

I believe that the installations are identical. But from what I understand the Academic versions are only for non commercial use.
You should ask this question of Jedi Scott -- the admin. He is the source of all knowledge about version things.

Academic and professional versions are exactly the same, except the splash screen (Academic says Educational on it).
The difference is the licensing. With the academic version you are prohibited from making money with your work. You agree that you are using the product for your own needs and not using it for items, services, or products that are for sale. In addition, you must be a student or educator to purchase the product, this often entails showing a copy of a valid student/educator id. Academic version can be upgraded to professional version for the standard upgrade pricing. So once you are done being a student you can easily upgrade to the professional version and start making money.

Wow! thanks for the site Brooke. I checked the suite you had priced and it isn't exactly the same thing as what I was looking at - it has InDesign, GoLive, and acrobat 7 instead of the video stuff I'm looking for premiere, AE, etc. ...but, it's still a great price!
Thanks for the info about the Academic versions/prices and the ID fax etc. :)

Scott you rule ! that's the definitive answer I've been looking for.
When the site owner / admin answers your post...it's like hearing the voice of (fill in Deity of your choice here) ;)
Thanks again Scott. :hail:
