Hi, a friend has e-mailed this picture of a WW2 bomber crew and I'd like yo improve it, can anyone help please?
I've adjusted levels and curves and have a better image, but there is still a long way to go.
Thanks.

Thanks GP, I'm trying to use it, but it's harder than they say!

Are the pics you're working with at a higher resolution than the ones posted? If not it's going to be hard to work with.
I think you may have overdone the levels adjustment. The top pic seems too dark and loses too much detail, and the bottom pic is too light. Here's an levels adjustment done to the lighter pic (which I assume is the original(?)). The second guy from the left in front still needs to be darkened a bit.
Here's my levels adjustment. I moved the black triangle just a bit further to the right than where the dark pixels start.

Thanks D2.
I'll give that a try. This is the image as big as it gets, unfortunately.

I worked on the 2 guys on the left a bit, but what's really needed is a better scan. I used the smug tool a lot.

Thanks D2
Yuo really improved those 2!
The guy has posted it on his web page, so he's happy now.
Thanks again

It's the tool I use when I'm very pleased with myself: the smug tool. Try Shift+R
Heh :D
The Blushes pallett has got me out of some embarrasing situations too.

Yeah, and I'm forever being, er, using the crone stamp ;)

Great improvement Joanie, what you do to the background?
I don't believe crone is a word associated with you!
Steve
As down2earth2 has already mentioned, a better scan or higher res' would be much better to work with, but that's academic now as this is I presume, the best we have to go on :)
Here are two variations on the theme.

This second one I have given a slight hue.

Any chance of a link back to [PA] on your friends site? No harm in asking

I'll pass this page on to him and tell him if he wants to use them to give a plug.

Cool, thanks Tuggie .... we gotta advertise! :)
Thanks down2earth2, I've taken quite a few photos of different skyscapes just so I can replace a bland or washed out sky. :)

Crikey! I did not realise the photo was going to be used like this I wish I had spent more time working on it now. :)
I had quite a few members of my family serving in the Armed forces during World War Two, and a couple actually with Bomber Command.
As is usually the case with people who have seen active service, they tend not to want to talk about their experiences. So I'm glad people like Peter Russell are taking the time to compile as much information as they can about their experiences to honour the memory of all those who served.
As a much missed relative of mine said to me when, as a lad, I pestered him for "exciting" war stories. "WAR IS HELL, never forget that"
I will never forget.
