Hello all D Rock refered me to here, I have a problem and i cannot seem to find an answer..

I work as a web designer (well aprentice) and i have just started putting flash on to my websites and i have found a few problems, all in IE, but i cant leeve it at that as most people use IE and it is for a company. Also the objects that are missing arent missing on my computer only different computers at my workplace.

Well first: when i put text on my flash objects the text cannot be seen by the computers at my work? for example www.parkroadautobody.co.uk in that website you will see buttons on the home page, but the text might not be there, it could be there as some Pc's do see it but i dont know why.

Second: www.spencedental-ulverston.co.uk on that website the banner at the top there should be 4 images changing, however on some PC's at work 2 images cant be seen. Also the buttons cant be seen either.

On my Pc at work and my pc at home i can see all the objects that are missing..the only difference between my pc and the other PC's is i have flash.

I thought it was because the other pcs dnt have flash player, but they do and why would i see half the banner on the second problem?

Anyways i have been trying to work this out with my collegues for quite a while so i would appreciate it more than ANYTHING if some one could solve this. thanks for the help

Hi Blitz - We have quite a few members knowledgable in Web Design. Someone will get back to you, soon, I'm sure.

Hey Blitz...I feel your pain...I used Flash 8 Professional to design two different sites entirely in flash. The first thing you want to check is what version of flash player the pcs are running. If you're designing in Flash 8, any pc running flash player 7 or earlier may have problems. Also, flash content triggers some of IE's security. Especially active x. I don't know the specifics behind this because I'm not a programmer or IE expert, so you may have to check the security settings of IE on the suspect pcs. Also, since you are an apprentice web designer, it is important to not only test your work on all browsers on your pc, but on another pc (not networked or sharing any files with your pc) in all the browsers to make sure the pages work. I found this out the hard way. Since I don't have your flash files...you may have to go back and debug them because sometimes the animation may be off, actionscripting may be off...unfortunately, debugging is part of the job...Good Luck!

PS I just checked your sites. The first one seems to be ok in IE 7 beta, and the second site, I see the first 2 images in the banner and the 3rd and last one seem to appear and disappear. The second one may be an actionscripting or animation problem (depending on which you used to make the transitions).

ok i worked alot with flash, but i canīt see the text of the buttons on the first site,
i see the pictures on the second but they are not changing, they stay the same

ah ok another thing, they are really changing :) but it began with the 3rd, than the 4th, than the 2nd than the 1st, but it is changing so slowly it is hard to see at all if you donīt pay attention

ok another mistake, you mean the pictures of the carparts are buttons (missed that :) )
they are there and they work.

so sometimes you have to embed pictures in your flash so that everyone can see them
maybe you can post some as here to read or maybe let us look into your .fla files

but first try to make your files possible to play in lower versions of flash

i have only a german version here but with control (cmd) shift and F12 you should get into preferences, there are some flash preferences there where you can make your files compatible to older versions of flash
maybe try to make it for player 7, those who have player 8 still should see it, but those who only have player 7 would be very pleased too :)

Graphixgeek : what flash player have you got? Yer thats the problem we were getting, where the left side doesnt show...I worked it out today though, the pictures that dont show up are the ones that have filters attached to them. Does anyone know why? And yer...i found out the hard way too :( i have had to go back to three different websites and edit my buttons and banners

Siouxie : ok m8 thanks alot i wil try that tomorrow, if you look now i have sorted it BUT i havent really, images i havnt played with in flash work, the images that arnt working have filters on them etc. Maybe this is to do with embedding it idk, how do i embed it? And one question mate, what carpets? lol :D

I'm using flash 8 player of course ;) ...I heard that the filters drive IE nuts so I tend to not use them except for animations that are going to be separate from the web page. As to why I am not sure. Some filters in flash 8 only work with flash 8 player (like blur). Without the .fla files in front of me I can't really say why the images with filters aren't showing up. It may be a conflict between the filter and how the image is displayed, if that makes any sense...:)

you have to set the macromedia security settings either with IE or macromedia. do you get the info bar at the top of the page? Usually it is saying that active content is blocked and you can click on it to find out how to allow it...at least that's what it does for me
