View Full Version : Time Again for a Photo Scavanger Hunt

Happy

Hey you photographers, time to arrange our 2nd Photo Scavanger Hunt!

So far we have eight talented hunters willing to join the safari. Are there any other brave hunters who would like to join in the extravaganza? We will hunt for seven items to be skillfully captured with our cameras. We must be careful though because who knows what dangers will be awaiting us hiding in the jungles.

For those who want to participate please sign up in this thread between now until Sunday night. In your posting please indicate three wacky items. The items should be things like a happy face (the smiley of the 70s not a person), a footprint (we are tracking prey aren't we?), an inspiration. Just minor things that could be shoot in their natural 'surprise' settings or done as a studio shot. On Monday, April 24th, I will put all the prey items in a hat and pull out the endangered items that we will be tracking down. I will also post the 'Prey List' sometime on Monday - probably late afternoon/early evening. (I am located in Eastern Standard Time - please keep that in mind as you become impatient to start the hunt.)

Now for the details:

A) We will follow the traditional photo rules. Please refer to the FAQ regarding the Photography Guidelines prior to submission.

B) Photographs must be taken during the submission period. The submission period will run for fourteen days, beginning on April 21th and ending on May 4th. Prey may be photographed in their natural surroundings or may be done as a studio shot.

C) There will be a three day voting period following the submission period - May 5th, 6th, and 7th. Hunters will be required to vote (You will not be able to vote on your own entry.) Please refer to the Photography Voting Guidelines.

D) Hunters will upload their photographs into the specific "Scavenger Hunt Prey Cage" (which will be located in the Cage Match area). Hunters may only submit one image per prey showcase. So choose your best shot. Images of poor quality or images which do not meet the PixelAddiction Site Guidelines on acceptable image uploads will be disqualified.

E) The participants that commit to the hunt and sign up in advance are asked to do their best to capture all of the prey items. It may take some skill but I know each of you can get those shots. NOTE: All PixelAddicts may participate in the Photo Scavenger Hunt. It is not limited to those that sign up for the safari in advance. However, please do your best to capture all prey items.

F) I am also asking that each participate that signs up in advance to message me during the voting period and nominate an image that you feel is the "Best of the Hunt" I will coordinate the nominations and post a new thread (after the voting period ends) containing a poll allowing all addicts to vote and determine the overall "Best of the Hunt". Oh the glory and the bragging rights for that photographer!

Any questions?

So come on - pack that safari gear, dust off your lenses, and join the Photo Scavanger Hunt.

* * *
I'm going to be the first to sign up - giggle. My suggested prey list is (as above): a happy face (the yellow smiley of the 70s not a person), a footprint, an inspiration.

Who is going to join me! Start signing up now.

First, let me just say how glad I am to know you're improving, Happy. Not wanting to impinge on your privacy, I didn't ask too many questions, and just sent you get-well wishes, but it sounded serious. I'm just happy you're getting better. :)

Good choices Newby. I'm going to make three choices off the top of my head. Hopefully if I get a better idea I'll be able to change before the deadline.
1) plant
2) animal
3) body part

Hmm. "An inspiration." What are you thinking with that one?

Wow - so much interest! A double wow for the fabulous prey items.

With all the skilled hunters signed up this will be a such a safari.

Will seven captures be enough or should a few more be pulled from the hat?

The excitment mounts.

I vote we increase the amount of prey items, Happy is right there are way to many great prey items to pass up.

I say go for 10.

Siouxie
04/20/2006, 03:23 PM
10 would be great, only question is if everyone who will enter has this much time, 2 weeks for ten is hm risky

If we start the hunt tomorrow - A submit period of 4/21-5/4 would include two weekends for going out on a shoot - would that be enough time for 10 items?

Newby
04/20/2006, 04:04 PM
I think that is plenty of time it allows for 2 weekends in the hunt, plenty of time to get the more difficult prey

Dave
04/20/2006, 04:13 PM
Do you plan on having an overall winner of the hunt and if so what would be the minimum number of items to count in the overall contest?

(No I'm not entering ....)

What about entry costs and prizes and voting time if there are 100-200 images or so to vote on ....??????

D Rock
04/20/2006, 04:14 PM
yea i agree, 2 weeks for 10 items is perfect

Can't you ever stop being the accountant. :p

Why aren't you entering? You took pics on you holiday so I know you can do it.

We're gonna run the poll again for the 'Best of Hunt' for bragging rights. Since they're being ran in the cage area there will be trophies on the individual prey captures. Voting time could be extended to 3days I suppose.

Okey Dokey all you hunters. The hunt for 10 items shall begin at midnight (EST) tonight. You will have fourteen days to submit your prey photographs into the appropriate cage showcase followed by a three day voting period. Hunters you may only submit one image per prey showcase. So choose your best shot. Please do you very best to capture all prey on the list. (The list will show up in the cage area at midnight - giggle)

NOTE: All PixelAddicts may participate in the Photo Scavenger Hunt. It is not limited to those that signed up for the safari in advance.

Remember to take some water with you on safari. It might get a bit hot out there. Be Safe and Have Fun!

I remember in the last contest some poeple felt that you should have to submit some kind of entry in each and every category in order to compete in the contest. I kinda felt that way, but then again I don't want to keep anyone from having the fun of capturing a prey, even if it's just one. Right now, if I have this right, it seems there's a separate prize for each category, and one for "Best-in-show." I'd like to suggest a third prize of "Overall winner." This would be won by the person with the highest total of points. This would be very hard to win without entering a photo in every category. I seem to have accumulated a massive amount of credits, and would love to offer a prize of 200 credits for overall winner if that would be appropriate. I chose 200 because it seems most contests have a prize of 100-150, but this is a huge contest so I thought it should be a bit higher.

That is just wonderful of you to sponsor an "Overall Winner" credit prize. An added treat and incentive for the hunters. Thank you.

I don't think I've been as creative as I could have been, I've been to pre-occupied with tracking down each item on the list. Well time will tell I suppose!!

Hi.

I was a good boy and had all mine in Tuesday night. I have to admit to some heavy brain storming for ideas and some pretty tenuous links to the prey!

Best of luck everyone.
I havenīt seen the possibility of putting the entries at pixelstash??
I'd assume that's because it was run as a cage match rather than a photography contest. Mayube it will get fixed ....

I enjoyed voting on all of those prey captures .... great hunting job everyone! :)

Whatta bummer!! I did the same thing at a lake a few years back. I hope you manage to get a working camera back in your hands soon.

I did get a pic for each catagory, but some of them are a little weak. It's a great challange spending 2 weeks thinking, "Fence, fence, fence," and "Plastic, plastic, plastic.", and "Happy? Happy? Happy?" and trying to come up with something. Really makes you think.

Some really nice pics in there. It's fun to see what everyone came up with.

I got them all,down2earth2 but I really had to stretch to get some of them. It was hard on the brain to say the least. But, it was fun too at the same time. I found the most difficult part not to finding the prey but finding suitable prey. After I got them all I was relieved and then almost cringed when it came to voting. Yikes, I never imagined! :) It was really hard to vote, being I'm no photographer,so I just voted for what I liked, not on the skill involved.

Bad luck about your wet camera, Siouxie.

Really makes you think.

Think, yes - a "nylon" umbrella is not "plastic" - took me a few shots to decide to read the label and confirm this! :)

And, a lovely, pink kitchen glove is "rubber" not "plastic" - though I did find some latex-free, plastic gloves, but they were clear and not interesting enough. :)

I did get a pic for each catagory

Me, too, but can't say they're all great. ;)
