Hello All.
My name is Linda.
I have been looking at your site for awhile now and finally decided it was time to join in on all the fun! I am interested in entering the contests but I have one question. How do I get pictures of celebrities that are not copyrighted to use in the contests??
Can anyone please help.
Thanks,
Linda

:welcome: from one :newbie: to another. :D
There are tons of places on the net that you can find images, as for celebrities, a Google image search is helpful, and in the general section of the forums, there is a link list(posted as a sticky thread) that has quite a few resources.
Hope that helps!

Hi, Linda and welcome to Pixel Addiction. I know you'll find the site fun, educational and the best part are the members: helpful and considerate. There is a lot of talent here, beginning and more expert. You can check out this (http://www.pixeladdiction.com/bb/showthread.php?t=2325?do=markread) compiled by Dave and Silky. There are some great celebrity sites in there.

Hi and welcome to PA, Linda! I'm glad you've decided to join in, instead of watching all the fun from afar. :)
Take a look at the list that Jaygre pointed you to (and yes Dave, you get the credit for the list). There should be some links in there to help you out. If you have any questions, just let us know. :)
Hey Silky what were you doing serving on the checkout in Asda (our local version of WalMart) today? (Her name badge said "Trish") ....

Well, unless she had a bright pink cast on her right leg, she wasn't me. :)
and you're not blonde either (but she was pretty) .... :)

Nope I'm not blonde...and you forgot the emphasis - "but SHE was pretty..."
I missed a word not the emphasis .... "but she too was pretty"
now waiting for the sound of a distant cough ...

Scott! Dave is getting fresh again.
A warm western Canadian welcome to ya Linda. Glad you found us. I know what you mean about copyright and celebs. In Canada we do not have the same copyright laws. In the states they have some kind of parody clause that we do not have here, but when it comes to celebs usually you can find images from wallpaper sites. They are likely still copyright, but I don't think you would ever have a problem with them as they are expected to be downloaded. Now they are likely not expected to be chopped, but since our purpose is basically for educational use I doubt there would ever be a problem. I would never try selling an image like that, but for contest purposes I think it is OK. SOmeone please correct me if I am wrong.
Nice to see you wanting to respect copyright...you are off to a good start. Hope you are missing the big storm down east.

Welcome Linda....we're all happy you could join us...Although my insanity level has risen a bit since I've joined...or maybe that is because I can't peel my eyes off of my laptop from working in Photoshop...hmmmmm....

Yes...another welcome from Western Canada, Linda!
I have wondered about the copyright thing myself. A lot of the fan sites have celeb pics that are free to download...but you're not allowed to sell them. I don't think that there is a decision one way or the other on whether we can alter them or not.
I won't tell if you won't.
BTW...I think the line in the sand is drawn in most cases where you profit from someone else's image...altered or not. I did some research once upon a time on images of 1930's Hollywood stars. There are some very significant copyrights on them that extend to 70 (?) years beyond the photographer's death...and the laws vary from state to state and country to country. When I asked on some of the photograpy and law sites about using and/or marketing hand tinted and/or altered celebrity images the laughter (and some rather nasty sounding snickers) was deafening.
So..........
Anyway...you'll have a great time here. Welcome!

Thanks magic_fella,
Your info is very helpful.
I don't plan on selling any of these images but just the thought of getting into trouble is scary
(everyone seems to want to sue everyone these days :irk: )
I am just here to have some fun and hopefully learn lots of new tricks in Photoshop.

Welcome to PA Linda. Sorry you missed the big storm. We don't get many big storms here in Oregon. Lots of rain Oct.-April, but usually drippy and not stormy. But about 4 days ago we had the hardest rain I've seen in my life(!) complete with wind and 1/4 in (1.25 cm.) hail. It was thrilling. It only lasted about 10 minutes, and just today I realized I lost a bunch of my blueberries to the hail, but, wow, that was impressive.

Hey Rumple, Thanks for the Canadian welcome :Canada:
Olie,
It is scary how small the world can be sometimes.
I was in Moncton with my husband's work (major Canadian courier company) - they were having a driving rodeo at their depot out by the airport and he was a judge. (but I went shopping :D)
