I've been drooling over the Cintiq monitors for quite some time(soooo expensive!!), and I am considering the purchase of a Intuos3 tablet. But I was just wondering if anyone out there has used a tablet PC to do some of their work. I know certain ones have the eraser pen function (like HP), though they lack the levels of pressure that the Graphire has (255 I think for the HP?)....Just curious because I would like to relegate this desktop-replacement laptop to the desk (it's so darn heavy!!) and thought about carrying around one of the lighter models...Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

I've got the Wacom 6x8 Intuos3 tablet, and I lover it. It has 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity on both the pen tip and eraser. If you can afford the price it is well worth the investment.

How much did it run you?

My apologies it's actually 1,024 levels of tip and eraser pressure sensitivity. It ran me somewhere in the neighborhood of $260 when I got it, but it's probably closer to 280 now :)

I have an Intuos 3 4 X 5 and I love it.

MUCH faster than a mouse and you can do lots of fine work. I have a laptop so it's a real joy to work with. A slightly larger tablet would be nice...but a little expensive. I got mine off of ebay, btw...there are some wonderful buys available there...new in box I paid (if I remember right) $185 plus shipping USD.

You just have to keep your eyes open, wait for the right opportunity and then pounce, jungle cat-like upon the bargain in the last minute.

Ouch. How are the Graphires? I'm just a casual guy, no big stuff yet, but i'd like to be able to draw on Illustrator like i can in real life.

In Canada they are about $99.00 cheap. And apparently perfect for casual use.

I just paid $130 on e-bay for a brand new 6x8 graphire - that included s/h. I absolutely love the extra space - I will never go back to 4x5. Next step is the Intuos!!
