So in the past (using PS7) I would create a brochure, insert all the images, leaving room for the text. Save as psd file. To be sure the text was nice and crisp, I would then open the brochure in Illustrator 10, convert the layers to objects... insert the text anew, rearrange the objects around the text... and Whala! Printers, clients all happy, output clean, crisp and beautiful.

Now I am using PS CS2. Going through all the same ways as before, but when I open the image (and save layers as object) there are no objects. It is one flattened layer/object. I have tried saving in PS as pdf & psd... still the same.

I know... perhaps I have done everything the wrong or long way in the past, but it has always worked for me and all others involved. Ya think this is compatabilty issue?

This current client is raking me emotionally, let alone financially over the coals...I want her out of my life and the sooner the better... I've bigger fish to fry! And not work-wise. My greatest "Thank Yous" in advance for any thoughts or solutions to this dilemma!

Linda :)

uhmm.. to be honest, I don't comprehend your workflow at all. it seems like 4 times the work. Why aren't you simply opening Illustrator and working there? I'm having a really hard time figuring out why you're laying out a project twice. Is it simply because you're more comfortable with Photoshop? Importing a psd into illustrator just means you're generating a great deal of placed or linked raster objects, which defats the purpose of the vector nature of Illustrator, you may as well just stick with Photoshop.

Photoshop CS2 does contain major feature upgrades in terms of exporting and cross application compatibility. Using Photoshop CS2 with Illustrator CS I would not be surprised that there are differences.

Ah! Yes you are right Scott, lots more work... using an excisting brochure totally completed for a friend of a client, they want the layout just the same but with new type. See this is how I did things a couple of years ago...... and why I love PA & all it's wisdom that much more!

I knew I should have just said no!!!! But a bleeding heart I am.

Compatibility???? Or what? Never have run into this with new projects...

Are you using Illustrator CS or earlier and Photoshop CS2?

If so, I'd definitely think it's a compatibility issue. With both Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 you're presented with several options when opening a PSD with Illustrator.... flat file, layers, editable type... all sorts of stuff.
