Just as a heads up, there'll be some site changes/updates coming up here in the next week or so. First, the site is getting a "professionalism" facelift. We've decided that we need to de-flashify the look and focus a little more on a sleeker, more professional look. It'll be good...you'll see.

Next, we're going to be working on opening up the new Member Gallery section of the site. This will be the area where our members can simply display their work without it having to be in competition format. Members will be able to upload their work and maintain a gallery of their images that they can even use as a portfolio of sorts. The Member Gallery will be something separate and different from the member stats page, where contest entries and trophies will be housed.

Thirdly, we will also be working to set up some "just for fun" type contests in a separate section of the area of the site that will also house the Member Gallery. They will be run in a forum type setting...a little different than just a regular forum, but you'll see when it all opens up. People will be able to vote on images using a 1-10 range, and comment on images. The votes won't be hidden, author names won't be hidden, and no actual trophy will be awarded (although we may try to figure a way to add any contests people actually win in this format, to their member pages later), but a definite winner will be decided using the average votes awarded. This will give us another section of site to participate in while the "meat" of the site, the contests, hall of fame, top images, and member stats pages are coded...which we hear will take 4-6 weeks.

So...that's it. Just wanted to give everyone a little update so you can mull it over and get all hyped up and excited.

And just for the record, I think it all sounds very exciting too!

I love all the different angles it will have, the fact that folk can join in creatively without having to take part in serious competitions is wonderful - you really are creating a space with a genuine ethos of encouragement, appreciation and acceptance of all art forms and styles which shines through in every aspect of the site and as a result it's members are all going to only grow in confidence and skill.

It really will be a place where folk can feel comfortable sharing their work and be keen to accept comments and constructive critiscm - the 'just for fun' competitions will be a great bridge between just showing stuff and actually 'messing with the big boys' and i think will really help the lurkers take the plunge in getting more involved! The already awesome sense of community and friendship can only blossom in this environment - once again i salute you fabulous Pixi-People for such all-round fabulousness!!!

Wow, Jewels...what sweet things to say! But I think you're right about offering a non-competitive place to display your works of art. I think it's definitely going to create a more creative and accepting atmosphere than just a competitive site.

Maybe now we'll get to see some of YOUR stuff. ;)

Silk, i really do promise to put some art up soon - just got the next few crazy weeks to get through and i'll have the time to sort it out and do more stuff... :violin:

I'm VERY frustrated at not getting time to paint, we went to see a viewing at a gallery last night - a friend of mine has got shortlisted for a prestigous local art prize so we went to the opening of the exhibition to lend support - i was so fired up and inspired by all the exciting new stuff i saw i just wanted to paint and paint for days!!! :bounce:

Jewels, I don't want you feeling pressured at all. It was just my way of saying that I hope you'll participate in that section of the site as well. :)

There's nothing lovely about the wee small Smarty McFarty's this evening, they've been having a right ol' hearty Smarty McFarty party, the house has gone to hell in a hand-carty and this old tarty is not amused at the mess!
