Anyone have any opinions they would like to share about DSLR's.
I'm thinking of making the plunge soon and I can't make up my mind on wether I want to go with an ist DS, a Canon, or a Nikon.
I have been using a Pentax 35mm for quite a few years and it has always been reliable, so I have to admit to a bias.
Any advice greatfully received.

Hey D,
I'm a diehard Canon user and that's all I'll ever use. There's a tutorial (http://www.pixeladdiction.com/bb/articles.php?action=viewarticle&artid=35&page=1) you can check out.
In my opinion Canon has a better quality picture than Nikon's, but that's just my opinion.
What type of stuff do you shoot?? That will help dictate what you need. I have found that the it's easier to decide what you want to shoot and then go get the camera that covers those needs.

What do I shoot? There's a question. I guess the answer is I'm still trying most things.
Here are two links to two pictures of mine that made it to the last round of a photo contest here recently. The two pictures I purposely took for it didn't make it to the last round, the two "holiday snaps" that I threw in for fun did. Go figure...?

I would throw the links on for the other two, but the paths are just too long. If I'm not too tired tomorrow, I'll down size them and post them here.

I also bought the Rebel XT. For the money it was the best buy for me. I highly recommend that if you do go with the XT, skip the 18-55mm lens package. I know it sounds like a good deal, but take the extra $100 and put it towards a decent lens. Newby will tell you not to buy quantaray, and he is probably right. But I bougt the 70-300mm quantaray lens for $125 and I have been completely satisfied as a beginner. For a little extra cash I could have went with the 28-300mm and save myself swapping lenses all the time.
What I am trying to say is that you are going to drop a boatload of cash for the XT, spend a little more now instead of alot more later for a good lens. It is such a hassle to swap lenses every time you want to frame a different shot.

Hi.
I've just bought a *istDL and I'm totally impressed with it, it does everything that I want and more! There may be reasons to go with other cameras but I figure that they all have similar quality with minor differences and if they were no good would soon fade away. The deciding factors I used were a free 70-300 lens, works off double a batteries which I have a lot of and any k mount lens will work on it, again I have some from my 35 mm.

Just trying to see if this upload works. This the picture I mention in the post above. I took this one to enter it into the contest and the other two made it to final round.

Guess the upload didn't work, here's the link.

Beautiful picture, Dale - I love the whole focus from the treed left side to almost prairie on the right - and the movement in the lower limbs of the trees is wonderful. Very nice!

Thanks, it doesn't come out well in their smaller format, but the movement is actually a ripple.
The origianl pictue was inverted and cropped to what you see. If you look closely, you can see the edge of the pond.
For a point and pray digital, I thought it came out fairly well.
