The dripping and splashing water in 3-D border breakouts is the form that gets me.

is what Dave gave you what you need? or do you want it like, making water to flood out somewhere? If so, buy the book: How to cheat in Photoshop by Steve Caplin, that has a great tutorial on how to do it.

Thanks Dave and Lexus :)

Tutorial 4 is my favorite. I am hoping for something a bit more realistic. No more buying for me Lexus, accountants orders!

Make a new pic of a big size (1024x768) and use clouds
then ocean ripple it
then use ctrl+U to get the Hue and saturation up, and make it a nice blue
then put a new layer and plastic wrap it to give it some white on the waves maybe a dissolve layer style? Just play around.

Then add that pic to another one, fiddle around with the perspective and play around to make somewhere look flooded. Thats a really rubbish tut, plus its also from the top of my head I'll post a small part of the water to show you what it comes out like.

EDIT: IGNORE ABOVE, UNTILL I REALISE WHERE I WENT WRONG!!
Thankyou :)

This may not help you if you don't have access to Photoshop User Magazine, but in the June 2005 issue there's a great explanation of how to make realistic rain, puddles, and raindrop ripples in the puddles.

Well, now we know why you asked Linda, so how about telling us your technique! :)

I think you just about nailed 60%+ of any good PS tutorial, the source image and masking have to be great! :)

There's also a tutorial on waterdrops at photoshopuser.com (http://www.photoshopuser.com/members/tutorials/mattk/040403.php), but once again you need to be a member of NAPP (which gets you the photoshop User Magazine).

What's the deal with rewriting someone's tutorial. It seems like once a technique is out there it isn't really "owned" by someone. Is rewriting it, and giving credit to the author legitimate?

I checked out Dave Cross' blog and followed his link to the Photoshop Cafe and found a tutorial on "Water Drops".
