I just purchased a d-link wireless router for cable internet. And dog-gone if can get it to work!
Does anyone know of any conflicts with this and my G4? The makers website is completely worthless.

I have a d-link wireless router and I have not trouble connecting to my PC's. You did not mention it but did you try resetting your modem using d-links instructions? I found that the reset instructions are very important. Other than that I cannot help you.

Oh! Redneck, but you have! I'll try this re-set thing. Most stuff works except the ports wont work (the ones that you plug the computer into). It says Mac compatable.

You sure you've got cables hooked up correctly and the proper cables? (Straight not crossover)

Did you paid for cable, can you see some light on the router, does it make some few noise,
did you readed the instructions ? ...
sorry ldg,... j/k.
(even if sometimes these causes are simply the causes, I still laugh at that guy who didn't turned the safety off on his scanner before hours of software battle, You know, like that washmachine one you can't guess about whithout readed the instalation method that most of us pass from reading like "hey, I know hey I,... just put the machine there, link to the water, to the vacuum and that's all, I've done this for years damned ! hi hi).
I got the cable and my pc just recognized it after I turned off/on the modem...
don't no much about Mac here, but it seems that the connectors are the same,(especially wireless) only the selector will lead you through the server I think if it doesn't do it "plug and play"..

Cable paid..check Light on router..check noise..?? instructions read..check And cowabungas question, Is it plugged in..check
Lord knows, if I can't be helped at least I can be humored!! :)
Jolt- cables hooked up properly. Proper cables? (Straight not crossover) I don't understand straight vs crossover. I am using the the one currently hooked up through my modem box to my puter. And then the other ethernet cable is indentical to the one in use. (far as I know)
There are 8 lights that can be lit up on the unit. The 1st is- power, 2nd- status, 3rd- Wan, 4th- Wlan. All of these light up and seem to function properly. The next 4 lights are link/act. None of these light up when you connect the computer. I tried switching the old ethernet cable wire with the new. They both worked the same.
Is it a DI-624 A, B or C?

1. is it hooked up to a "wired" computer
2. are the other computers up and running (if there are any)
3. is your wireless on the mac configured to the router and allowed access to it
DI-624 A (http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=6&pv=29&sec=0)
DI-624 B (http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=6&pv=46&sec=0)
DI-624 C (http://www.dlink.com/products/support.asp?pid=6&pv=30&sec=0)
Each has a pdf quick install guide manual you can download.

I don't understand question 1
No other computers up yet, I didn't see the use if it wasn't getting a connection from the my computer.
Configured? Heck if I know! Jolt might know.
Hey Dave- Its a DI 524 version A2. The manufactures web-site doesn't have any literature regarding this version.

I think question one means, is the router hooked up to a computer that is using an actual wire...hard wired...as opposed to a wireless connection. We have three computers hooked up to a router in our house. Two are wired (hard wired) and the other is wireless.

Yes the it is hard wired. Nothing wireless yet

Is the router configured on your Mac? I know when ours was set up it took the guy what seemed like forever to set it up on the actual computer itself.

There must be some instruction somewhere... is there any install CD? (it might really sound like a dumb question now).
I don't almost dare to ask about the safety one for the moment.

Oh Trish! A stranger in my house to help! Oh I shudder to think ;)!
Swillox- I didn't think I should use the software till I had the hardware working. And this certainly seemed to be what the instuctions said.
Dave- How'd you get this number ?? You are so good! Each time I tried to find one, they (at the website) wanted me to select my model and because my model didn't match anything they had, I could go no further!
I suppose it time for me to take the d#@$ thing back out of the box and try all of these suggestions. I'll keep ya posted. Thank you everyone for your time and patience!

Well the fine (short and a bit snotty) people at D-Link said they can not help me, because my ethrenet card is not accepting the router "ping". Most likely because I am operating on 10.4.2. And they have no info to help with my current OS. Then he said call apple and talk to them. Yeah right, if I want to buy my router 2 more times. I responded, "No problem, I'll just box it up and be done with routers." WELL! All of sudden he became much nicer. Told me to make sure that my OS had all it's updates and that Apple most likely could help me on their online help. Yeah, we'll see.
I could further vent on this matter, but I will spare you. :hair:

routers are very funny....ive had MANY encounters with them so far and wut seems to be the common link is just keep trying it and eventually it works LOL....it also DOES matter wut gets plugged in first (first the cable, let it load properly, THEN power up the router) keep trying and remember once it works DON'T TOUCH IT!!!!

You are absolutly correct D Rock.
My instructions on the D-Link is as follows. Modem power off. Router power on. Connect ethernet cable to modem. Modem power on Router power on then connect ethernet cable to router in wan slot. If you do not follow these directions to the "T" the router will not work, hardwired or wireless. Another point to consider is the Cable Modem has to be off for at least 1 minute in order to reset. (or at least with the ISP I use)
When I first connect the modem and router I could not get it to work. ISP employee had typed in the wrong S/N for the modem. It only took a week to discover the error, and I had to ask them to check it.
Don't get discouraged, it will work, you just need everything just right.

Again, I can't thank all of you enough for your help and advice with this D$#@$ router. I followed each of your install directions (as well as the manual) suggestions, to the tee...over and over again. But it just wont work. All of this (not all of your help & guidence, of coarse) plus the snotty help from D-Link, I've had enough.
It's all boxed up and on its way back to the store. I was only doing this so I didn't have to share with my daughter. She was intially sad, but I told her she could take the money and buy the new car stereo she's been begging for for her b-day.
I still wont like sharing! ;)

I'm not an expert on routers or cable modems and I have a PC, BUT...
One of the things I had to do on my PC when I installed the wireless router was to clone the MAC address of my PC's LAN card into the router.
This is what I think that means. Apparently every network card has a unique number that identifies it. I know MAC stands for something other than the things made by Apple computer but I can't remember exactly what off the top of my head. Anyway by cloning or copying the number into the router, it will make the router appear to be your computer as far as the modem is concerned.
Anyway, once you have successfully connected your computer to the Internet without the router, connect the cable modem to the router and the router to the computer.
Every router has an address that you can use to connect to when you need to changes its settings. A lot of the time, the address is http://192.168.2.1 but check the manual that came with the router. Somewhere on the pages (I can't tell you exactly where because I have a different router) there will an item that says "Clone Mac Address of this computer" or something similar. Once you have done that, you should be able to get to the Internet.
This may be naive and wrong because I have no network knowledge when it comes to Macs, but it's worth a try.
