Ok, I should know this one - but for the life of me I can't remember. Say I want to find out what processor, how much Ram, etc, etc, I have on my system. What do I type in the "Run..." dialog for it to show me all this? (windows 98 here) Thanks.

Hey 1C,
I can't remember if 98 has it but you can go to the control panel and click on system. That should do it.
I think

The fastest way to do this is to right click "My Computer" then go down to properties. Bing! Bang! Boom! Your done :)

lol. thanks guys. yeah I know I could go into the sytem properties but I thought there was a more thorough version that gives you a complete readout of your hardware and such. Not that I actually need this - it was just something that was bugging me and couldn't remember. oh well. yeah I'm on win 98 right now because I'm at my parents. Its an old computer, 700 mhz, 5 gig hard drive, 256 mb RAM. its ok though because its only used for surfing and checking email mostly ;) It still would be nice though if they upgraded.

1c, try this - www.belarc.com - download the advisor software, it's free and gives a good system rundown, even down to what software is instaled.

cool! thanks trin
and wouldn't you know it. I just figured it out. In the "Run" dialog you type "dxdiag". once it runs you click "save all information" and then you can view it in a text document. I think this probably works on xp too but I'm not sure. Ok, enough rambling here. sorry for the boring post everyone. :D
