Newb-Pattern Overlay

Ive seen the tutorial Pattern Overlay by chris49 and for some reason i think cuz im such a newb and retarded at the saem time I have no clue why it wont work. Im just tryin to make the scarface black and white logo thing i guess as a paintjob on a paintball gun (dm5) if anybody paintballs in here... but yah i cant get it to work any body have some info that i can use?
