View Full Version : My cropping tool is jinxed

My cropping tool used to work; now it doesn't.
Generally, when one pulls the corner box thingy, it should go "down and out," right? Wrong. It goes out, but not down. In other words, it gets longer, but not deeper.
Aren't there spozed to be things to grab hold of (handles?) on all four corners, plus in the middle of each side?
There is no control as to height. It just gets wider.
Plus, the whole image jumps around on the window and goes out of sight.
What's going on here?
I am shut down for some of my editing. I want to post my own portrait on the Getting to Know you thread, but can't.

PS I use Photoshop Elements 3

Cropping tool .... pass (try pressing Ctrl or shift when clicking on the handles)
Posting a photograph of yourself :-
1) Image should be less than 600 px wide and not too many Kbs and a jpg or gif or png format.
2) Get ready to post it ....
3) Click on Manage Attachments which is just below the message box where you type your information.
4) Select the file you want to post and click the upload button.
5) Bake for 20 minutes at 180 .... err wait while it uploads.
6) Submit the post by clicking "Post Quick Reply" or check the post first by clicking "Go Advanced"

MaryAnna,
Check the Tool Options bar, it may be that there is a value for the height set, which will keep it at that specific size.
Difficult to say without actually seeing it.

Try this for Elements 3
To get back to the default settings select the crop tool, click that tool’s icon at the far left end of its options bar. Choose either Reset Tool to reset only the current tool, or Reset All Tools to restore default settings to every tool.
I hope that helps

Great!! Thanks, Chris49 -- resetting the cropping tool solved the problem absolutely!
Next, Dave, I will try posting the image of myself to the Hello, Post Picture of Self thread. And, er.....is that a picture of YOU?
And, TO1, thank you very much for your response. Your name reminds me of last night with my Sweetie Pie. Seems we were having a Farce Night. We'd have a blast for five minutes, then a scrap for five, then it would become a laughing event.
Finally, after about 2 hours of this, he said "You and I are the 3 Stooges, rolled up into Two! We are the Marx Brothers, rolled into Two." G, what a strange evening. Nothing went exactly as planned, but it never turned into a real squabble, which it so easily could've.
Part of what worked was, I invited him to tell me his complete experience with what happened; then I told him mine. We experienced the problem event so differently, that it was obvious nobody was to "blame." It just was farce, pure and simple.

[/QUOTE]There's a couple of pics of me in that thread, one as a toddler taken back in '57 and one more recent but only my head showing on a beheaded statue in Lancaster.
