I am beyond tempted!

Is it possible to hook up an emac to this model (G4 (sawtooth) AGP graphics Macintosh) ? As a temporary solution of coarse. Is this a realy ridculas question?

Yes Linda. You can use a straight Cat5 (Ethernet) cable to network two macs. If you want to network them and have internet you'll need a hub though. Hubs run about $80-$100.

Make sure it's a "Crossover" Ethernet cable

Is the ethernet plug-in that funny looking "Y" symbol? My internet is plugged into the "arrow on both sides" symbol (sorry if I have confused you with my high tec knowledge :) ) The latter of my description is where my cable internet is plugged now.

The ethernet is a big phone cable basically. And yes, it would be where your cable internet connection goes. Cable modems connect from the modem to the Mac with an ethernet cable. If you want to network, you'll need a hub. Plug the cable modem into the hub then the Macs into the hub (with straight cables) and you'll have a network. If netowrking just two Macs then you need a crossover cable as Chris suggests.
Oh man!!!....I wished I wasn't so far down under!!!! That's an awesome deal there Jolt! Kudos to you ...for your never ending generosity of mind & spirit! :)
I couldn't agree more GP!

I wouldn't want to network the two, but rather use the monitor of my emac, for a time being. Is it possible, I wonder to disable the computer which is all in one with the monitor?

Tell you what Linda... you buy the G4 pay for all the shipping and I'll throw in my 17" Dell CRT Monitor. It's in perfect condition. I used it for a couple years. Great color clear picture and works with this G4. All it will do is increase shipping costs.

Great offer Jolt, very tempting. But can this Dell rival a macs monitor display? Cause I've never seen a better image than this on this old boy offers, compared to all my local pc users? What year is this dell?

Very tempting indeed....

Scott

Not sure what year the Dell is. It's only a couple years old though. I'll have to look. And I'd match it to my Apple monitors any day. Color is important to me.

Although I don't don't know diddly about how color works, I know what looks good. (One of the few things I know!)

An outstanding and a very generous offer Jolt, I'll have to sleep on this and pray it isn't sold before I make my decision.

Hay Jolt, can I get some info on the "Blue and White G3 Rev1 Macintosh"

- is there a DVD burner
- dose it have a network card
- and can you post a pic of it for me

Thanks

No burner sorry I was wrong. I edited the information above. it's got an a CD-ROM in it right now... reads CDs only. You can generally pick up a DVD burner for it for around $100. And installation is pretty easy. I could walk you through if needed.

Yes it has an ethernet network card and an Internal 56k Modem as well so either ethernet network or modem with work (even both if you so desire).

Pics attached. It's got a custom Appleskin ($50) of blue flames on it... basically custom plastic sides that can be removed in you want and do not leave any damage on the case. So if you want the blue apple logo on the side it's there..

So it dose not have the "Internal Apple superdrive CD/DVD burner (Pioneer 106D)"

BTW sweet flames

I thought it did.. but I was mistaken. I double checked. and it only has a CD-ROM. Sorry the info there in my first post was incorrect regarding the CD drive. All other information about both machines is completely accurate though. I can send Apple System Profile reports if needed to verify the information. The G3 has a Sony CD-ROM in it. Sorry about the error. I do have the SCSI card and the external SCSI CD burner, which is what I was using back then.

Ok thats cool,
The thing is I'm debating between geting an older mac to learn from, or fix up my laptop which needs a new Processor and already has a dvd burner.

hmmm I will have to think about it, one thing is for shure those flames are awesome

Scott

Well.. not to sway you or anything :) but the cost of an internal DVD burner would be much less than the cost of a new Logic board for a laptop :) Actually.. the entire G3 at $300 + a dvd burner may be less than the logic board.

Chris49

Actually I talked a sales manager into giving me a warranty on the board, so I just need to pony up the cash for a chip it's a (2.8 800fs) so it's still a lot of money :(

but $300 is a good deal, Darn you Jolt :hair:

Do you think it could be used for as an "ok server" if I add more HD space?

Scott
05/08/2005, 01:26 AM
Yeah it'd be "okay", not screaming but definitely adequate. It would somewhat depend on the type of network. It's probably not robust enough to use as a workgroup server for the latest Adobe apps. But as just a plain file server, it should be great. It does have the internal ATA card (required due to processor issues on the rev 1 G3) but the card would allow for the connection of up to 4 internal hard drives (with a power splitter, there's only 3 internal power connections available). And the bays are present for 3 internal drives.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'm done bothering you for the night :)
