Is Inkscape a good program to make vectors in? I downloaded it a while ago and haven't gotten around to fiddling with it, but with this new t-shirt contest I might just give it a try. :)

I would get Adobe Illustrator, but 100 and some MBs just isn't going to download on a 56k. :)

I tried it today: it is awesome.

I can't imagine why someone would put such a beautiful app out there for free. Have not gone in too deep as far as compatibility with other apps is concerned but the first glance is marvelous.

Go and try it.

It's not bad. No comparison to Illustrator though. But for a free alternative it's okay. I thin MS Expression/Acrylic is better though and it's also free.

Hi Jolt

Yes you're right, it cannot beat Illustrator, but hey; if I can't afford to drive a Rolls Royce, I'll settle for a VW NewBeetle any day.

What I saw from Acrylic up to now is that it is an exact clone to Illustrator. But they bring it like it's a whole new product (look at the demo where they make the apple: do you see anything new? The interesting part about making the surface of the apple is conveniently skipped. They just show the sprinkling of the spots at the end, which is an exact replica of the spray tool in Illustrator).

Seamless integration, pooha: CS really beats them to that. This thing about interaction between any program with Powerpoint is a laugh. It is that noone knows that in Acrobat you can make such beautiful presentations, for otherwise PPT would have been down the drain ages ago. And where is the free Mac Version? Is there a Mac version at all? And are you serious about it staying a freeware program? Something for free at Microsoft?

These Inkscape guys really did a super job, I'm impressed and the fact that they don't have these nifty extra's that no one really asks for doesn't change that. And the extra fact that it is for free and Open Source takes me really over the threshold.

Just my two 0,02€

Cheers
Tom

PS I could have gone further and further ranting over MS but hey, life goes on and it is not really THAT important.
