I had ordered a Sigma 500 DG Super flash for this occasion on ebay ($122 :) ) but it didn't arrive in time so I was stuck with the 300d's crappy onboard flash. This meant using RAW only since I couldn't trust the flash's exposure compensation.

Church's have absolutely horrendous lighting. Really, really bad lighting. Daylight seeps in through the windows while incandescent lights brighten the altar. Craziness.

Those are great images, something for your friends to treasure.

Did your camera get baptised too? (cause of problem?) :)

Absolutely Newby. It was a tough choice between the Promaster 7500, Sigma 500 DG Super, the 420EX and Sunpak 5000AF. The Sigma just seemed more pro-grade and something that will work with future 580ex's.

Dave, I wish I knew what the problem was. I think it had something to do with excessively bright situations and blown-out highlights. But I'm not entirely certain. It does have me worried, though.

By the way, do the images look too dark? They looked great in PS yesterday but now i'm having second thoughts.

#2 and #5 look a little dark, but that could just be my screen.

Wonderful photogs, PDG, what a terrific celebration! I've done a little church photography, and IT IS REALLY HARD, especially without supplemental spot lighting - some appear a bit dark, but I think you can make adjustments that will take care of it just fine.

Congrats!

Wow those pictures are of great quality.

I am just about to start out with a DSLR, I hope I'll become as good as you :)
