Is there a way to get that thing horizontal?

in paint shop pro? just move them around until they look nice. :D

I don't think there is. But if it's in your way just hit the (Tab) key to hide

nope.. Photoshop tools are always vertical.. but as Chris posted tab will hid all palettes.. shift-tab will hide all palettes except the toolbar.

ps- ...and Shift+Tab when palettes are hidden will jam up the program.
