when using Pen Pressure configuration for the various tools (ie. stamp, brush etc), does the Flow control pull down matter anymore (ie. the flow control on the top edge of the window)

is that a cap for the maximum flow which can be applied via pen pressure?

thanks again.

Flow is different than opacity although they seem very similar.

Flow controls the rate at which pixels are painted. So with flow set to 100% then 100% of the pixels in that brush get painted. Reduce flow to 80% and only 80% of the brushes pixels are painted. Opacity controls at what opacity that 100% or 80% get painted.

You can have an opacity setting at 50% and a flow setting of 100% = all pixels will be painted but only at 50% opacity. Or 50% opacity and 80% of flow = only 80% of the pixels will be painted and at a 50% opacity.

They are two separate settings. You can have both opacity and flow set to pen pressure which would mean more pressure = more pixels painted and more opaque at the same time.

some tools have flow control in both adv and top bar settings .

assuming opacity jitter is OFF, flow set to Pen Pressure in adv menu, and 15% in top bar setting.

does that mean flow is capped at 15% regardless of any pen pressure applied?

thanks

yes. :) The options bar setting is the maximum allowable setting. Then the pen will use pressure within that range 0% - 15%

The same holds true for opacity as well.

^interesting stuff to know. Hey, after I first installed my wacom, when I was painting, the size of my brush would get bigger the harder I pressed down. Somehow the settings or something got changed and now the brush just stays the same size while I paint. How do I switch it back? thanks

Hi cowabunga,

what you need to do is open up your brushes pallet. In there you will find different drop down menus caled "Control" than just select the option you want :)

Actually.. in the brush palette for Photoshop 7 or CS Sam, you want to check "Shape Dynamics" on the left side of the brush palette. That will allow the shape or size of the brush to change based on pressure or whatever dynamic you set it to.

I guess that is kind of an important step

hmm.. shape dynamics is checked. I had to unplug my wacom early for something and then plugged it back in. Maybe that reset something? :dunno: weird.

Make certain you've got the dynamics set correctly in the brush palette...not in the options bar

yup, that was selected too. Problem solved though! :D -Its amazing what restarting your computer can do. Thanks for the help though jolt and chris.
