I am fairly new, and I am trying to complete the new beginners contest. I am most of the way thru Siouxie's tutorial and I have hit a wall. I have selected the castle with the 'dancing ants', and I go to edit->Define brush but it is not highlighted. I cannot select it. Have I done something wrong? I am using PS 7.0.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Joe

Hi Joezilla welcome aboard!

I'm really not certain why you wouldn't be able to define the brush. Try highlighting the layer in the layers palette then select all... then define brush.

FYI, for the contest you shouldn't use Siouxies image but rather find your own and apply Siouxie's technique.

Hey Joe, I had the same problem with 'define pattern'. Save your work and re-boot PS7. It worked for me. Good luck. :)

Hi Joezilla :)

great you try out the tutorial.

No matter what i did to a picture, no matter what is locked or what mode it has you should always be able to define a brush.

Maybe if you discribe the way you got there where you are at the moment i could help you. Ask here or just pm me.

I just followed the tutorial. I used your pic for practice, finished the masking, created the dancing ants, went to edit->define brush and it was grayed out. I will try the restart as stated above tonite.

Thanks again for all your help. I have been fascinated by how powerful PS is, but this is the first place I have found that walks newbies like me thru extensive tools and tricks. Thanks!!

I'm stumped, I have tried different colour modes, indexed colour, multi-channel, even tried to create a brush from the blank part of a layer and it allowed me every time...my guess is that rebooting will help, if not, I would say it is time to uninstall and re-ionstall PS...Good Luck Joe!

Well, issue solved. Resolved actually. I dont know what the problem was (is) but I found a way around it. By copying the layer to its own, new form it worked fine. Dunno.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am really glad I found this site.
