I have noticed that there is a quite a marked difference between images on my computer in photoshop compared to uploaded contest images here. They look really washed out here, wereas I am panicing because I think that they are too dark in Photoshop and am probably lightening them too much.
Please could someone enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong.
Hehehe 'enlighten' can that be considered a pun? :)
Calibrate your monitor especially within Photoshop ....

It's most likely to do with colour profiles. On the whole, browsers ignore colour profiles. Your best bet is to create your image using the sRGB profile, which is what the interweb renders them under.

Thanks guys, I am going to have to check my profiles. I have a laptop/powerbook monitor Dave so not sure what it is capable of regarding calibration.
Please could someone delete one of my entries to the cage match.... I put in 2 because of an error message the first time around and I need to upload a new darker one because it is far too washed out (almost going to cry)

If you go to Edit preferences, there should be a box somewhere from which you can choose the type of colour profile you want to use. The sRGB one is in there.

Hi:
Are you viewing the web image on the same machine as you are using for photoshop? The reason I ask is because you mentioned a LCD laptop screen. I do not use my laptop to look at pictures on this site, or any site for that matter, anymore because the LCD really makes it look different. The CRT I have for my desktop gives a much better look for that sort of thing.
Is calibrating the monitor the same as using that Adobe Gamma Loader thingy that installs with photoshop? I will have to do a search and see if anyone has talked about doing that... I guess I should if I am getting into photoshop this much.

Mmmm I haven't been saving for the web for contest entries snowflakejen. I do for pretty much for everything else that I do... I think I must try that.
Thanks
