How about an extra two days on that cloning contest?
Maaaan! My eyes are bugging out of my head. You couldn't have picked a tougher image, could you? Why not a chain link fence in front of a grassy knoll covered in tooth-picks with shadows of trees on a rainy day? Geez! :undies:
lol
It's good practice, I guess.
Hint : find out where the sculpture is, go there, destroy it and take a new photo from the exact same spot with the exact same cloud formation ....
Okay I'll help it's in Iceland.

I don't need it. I can stay awake for two days without eating. I'm gonna' need a catheter, though.
At least I have an excuse not to do the dishes. :D
lol OHF, but the only size we have in the house is for a two-year old. Maybe after two days of not eating. ;)

Well 1-9, I would have to disagree, cloning is an art in itself. Where the skill comes in is in being observant, knowing where to clone from and noticing how the texture changes with lighting in this case. You will want to pick up areas as close to what you want to cover as possible for a close match, but you will also have to throw in peices from other areas that are similar or you end up with the tell-tale cloning patterns from copying one area too many times.
The sky should be quite easy as it is obscure, look for similar areas of clouds to clone, that is to say some parts have light areas and some darker areas. the mountains and land in the distance should also be easy.
The water can be difficult unless you take a good look first at where the lighter and darker areas are.
The base of the statue, I assume can stay for the new item to be added. You may want to just make a selection of the sky, give it it'sown layer, flip it on a horizontal axis and mask it into the base after it is flipped.
Then simply insert your new item and blend it into the scene keeping in mind visible characteristics such as angle and intensity of light, sharpness, colour balance, contrast and things like that.

I can't disagree with that bd, but given enough time, and a small enough brush, cloning can be relatively simple (if not tedious.) I think that the power of observation is important but if you can't sit still for ten minutes, you'll never be able to observe what needs work. I didn't want to make it sound as though it was without effort though, or that all the people working on this contest have it easy - heck no. HECK NO! I guess what I should have said was that there really isn't anything within the realm of PS that is truly difficult if you have that particular skillset. Some people are well versed in blending, some are good at colourizing, and some are good at everything. Once you learn a technique, it becomes easy to apply. Finding the right source, deciphering some of those tuts, or trying to guess what will earn high votes, now that's difficult.
ps- I am no longer blessed with that much hair but I like the emoticon. I need to pull mine out with tweezers. *aren't Emoticons the sworn enemies of the Transformers?*

burndog, I thought that you could still enter the beginner contests as you have had just two wins in that category? Isn't it three wins in beginners then no more entries in beginners?

I can't quite remember how it works, but I think once you have won a certain amount in advanced and/or intermediate...whichever it is I do not qualify, plus I would feel kind of weird entering a beginner contest, I used to just to help fill the contest as when I started there were very few entries, I even felt weird then.

If you have 1 advanced win, OR 2 intermediate wins, OR 3 beginner wins you have to move out of the beginner contests. :)

You're right, burndog - you've definitely 'shopped your way into the big league.
You may want to just make a selection of the sky, give it it's own layer, flip it on a horizontal axis and mask it into the base after it is flipped.
I'd already tried that, then getting it to look like shny metal plates with distortions is the major problem.

Well, after almost eight hours of cloning I've done the sky and the water, now I have today left to do the rest. Wish me luck (or speed) 'cause after all that work, I don't want to miss the deadline. It would be my own fault since I decided to go to bed last night, after all. ;)

Funny you should mention that, I hadn't saved since 8am yesterday and only saw that when I went to bed last night. :yikes:
As for the layers, I've still only got two (background and copy.) There's still a lot left to do, but I've finished cloning, cloning, cloning, cloning, cloning, cloning.. oh, sorry.
