Lightwave 3d 8.0 (upg)

I have a friend who just upgraded his lightwave from 6.x to 8.
only computer specs I can give right now is that he is using Win ME.
he never had a problem with 6.x, NOW he is getting a G1 error?
I have tried the newtek site but it is down.
if anyone can help I would appreciate it. I THINK it is a problem with the OS but not sure since I have never tried lightwave.

Never mind, I think I found the problem.
the #1 thing in the recomendations for the prog is the OS (yes the newtek site came back up), and ME is NOT on the list.
