Hi, I'm new to the group but want to find out how to create the effect where a photo lifts off the page at the edges, presumably done with drop shadow effects. I'm using Photoshop 7 and have elements 2.
Thanks in advance, you all seem like a fun bunch.

Hi Tuggie, welcome on board, It seems there are many answers to your question. All I can say is the effect is a fairly simple procedure as it usually comes with the software already done for you.
Stick around and learn many more things to do in photoshop, this is a good place for that.

Hi.
Thanks for the replies, they are great effects and I'll look into them, but they are more than I wanted. All I want is the effect of putting an old photo down that has a slight curve to it, so both ends are higher than the middle, hard to explain by words only.

Watch this space...well, somewhere near this space ;)
What I'm still not totally sure of is wether he wants to finsih up like that or is starting llike that and wants to flatten out the image ....
Nice effect though Trin .... keep the explanation simple will ya? :)

Theffect is what I wanted to do, maybe a lesser effect, but now I wait with bated breath for the method!

Holy Trinity of One!!
Thanks for the tutorial, it worked a treat, I've attached the finished result.
The only problems I had was when I tried the shear command on the shadow I couldn't get it to work, it only defaulted to the original shape, but I figured out how to change it.
The other problem was creating the shading and highlight, i think I'll have to practice that a bit.
Thanks again.

Thanks Tuggie,
Shading with dodge and burn can be tricky at first but it can create a good effect. If you're using a mouse, it may be worth dropping the exposure some more and building up the effect more gradually.

Don'tcha just hate it when this happens (on good-tutorials)....
Poor Trin, who gets to sue who first? :)

That is sad TrinityOfOne. Is this the first time that has happened or does everyone run around nicking from everyone else?

It's not the fact of whether it was stolen or not, it's just that it appeared pretty much the same time as mine, just a coincidence I suppose.
I think the term is 'information exchange', rather than theft :)

See now, flood the tutorial section with loads of tutorials all in one day, nobody will be able to keep up with you and then bob's your aunty!! PA would be one up on everyone else.
I wish I knew something clever enough to write a tutorial on, but alas... there is nothing new or clever in this brain.
