View Full Version : Spam
Is it me or is spam getting out of control? I have a super-private email address that is starting to get flooded with spam. And after opening a new account at MSN, it immediately started getting spammed as well. How does this happen.

Spam is running rampant! I have several email accounts and I wake up each morning to at least 45 spam emails! I HATE SPAM!!!

Yeah I've got an account that has never gotten more than one or two spam emails in a month. Lately it gets 10 or 11 a day.
That's what I'm talking about. I keep my home account sooo private that only dear friends and family have it. Now I just had to delete 11 spams from it within the space of 1 hour. It's crazy. But what I'm curious to find out, is how they figured out my address. I never show images, I never click on links, I never preview the message. I just delete.
At my job, they recently had to install an additional load-balanced mail server just to delete email faster. Apparently the dual processor 500mhz (8gb ram) server wasn't able to cleanse spam fast enough to keep email "live". They installed a dual 1ghz server and email is still 30 minutes behind. Crazy I say.
I get around 100 a day, thankfully most are filtered out by Yahoo mail filtering .... even some "real" mail.
It's still a real pain.

I get around 90 per day too. It can come from anywhere and not necessarily initiated from your PC. Worm viruses on other people's systems broadcast address books across the interweb, it's like a pyramid scheme.
I assume you have adaware or some other such software?

I have tiny Personal Firewall, AVG anti-virus scanner (latest update) and most recently Adaware 6.0 which I don't really understand, that and occassional trips to P-Cillin online and I'm still stuck with a trojan horse 'PSW.Bispy.A' that none of them can get rid of. So I keep getting popups which are supposedly disabled by the Google toolbar programme ....
That on top of having to monitor my Yahoo spam mail filter because it blocks emails I want as well as ones I don't ....
I could almost :sob:

Dave, Symantec normally posts "Removal Tools" on their site for the more prolific virus nusances. You may want to take a look there.

I had a quick search, seems loads of people are having problems with that particular trojan :/
Well, that (Symantec) didn't do anything other than totally confuse me so I've called my "expert".
