So this is my first try on doing a matte paint with a picture of a club i found

you can see the original picture of a club, and my dark and ruined version of it.

So what do you think :)

Love this, you did a great job! I agree on the awning. Maybe airbrush that out, but otherwise the image is fantastic. :)

That building is just stunning, so much character in there. (Good idea for a contest too ;) )

So I did a bit more searching and found the source image! I thought it was something a little more local to you than Eureka, CA (http://www.disordered.org/Travel-US-CA-N.html) :)

Here's a model of The Addams house ....

And a link to several different angle shots of the model ..... http://www.culttvman.com/gino_dykstra_s_addams_house.html

There's a big (weird) mansion somewhere in the USA I remember seeing pictures and reading stories of, I think it belonged to the heiress to the Remington (rifle) fortunes. Very strange place lots of odd rooms ..... damned if I can remember it now.

I'd have thought images of old French/German/Austrian/Bavarian castles might have helped ....

The Winchester House in California MIGHT BE what you're thinking of - The heiress believed as long as she kept adding on to it, she would continue to live. Be immortal. So, ... there are stairways leading nowhere, doorways in walls with no rooms, closets that open to the outside. (kind of like the way we add to pictures, dontchaknow)

Here I am again. Found a pic of the Winchester Hs. But I can't seem to upload it, Do a Image Google on Winchester House, it's on the first page

Awning schmawning, I say leave it in, I think it is completely awesome just like it is, it is an exercise in matte painting, and you have done a wonderful job, the colour sets the mood so nicely and the missing shingles, broken windows, spooky tree and stone wall all add to it.

I agree with libra 100% it would make for a great contest.
