This little guy has been taunting me recently and I've never had the camera to hand! My 300mm Sigma decided to behave itself for once (I still need it rechipped as it will only work wide open). Let me know what you think!

Awesome. I really like the depth. I see nothing to critique. :)

Never mind the birdie, I want that tree! It's gorgeous. Great capture though Trin.

(We have an old laburnum which wont flower until late May)

Sweet. I've never seen that species before. Nice to have the blossoms for a backdrop. I always have a bit of a thrill as spring comes on.

Very nice Trin, especially for a 300mm, I assume you used a tripod, if not you are MUCH steadier than myself. As far as shooting wide open, it works great here to blur most of the background to give visual punch to the bird. Nice looking bird, tree and image...great shot Trin.

Are you lucky enough to have flowering trees at this time of year...must be nice we have to wait until late May or early June....come on Winter, be OVER allready.

No, I didn't use a tripod, the shot was taken looking almost straight upward, which may explain why it mangaged to stay in focus, normally I need a tripod to shoot at 18mm (must cut down on coffee)! :)

It's a very early flowering tree at the bottom of our garden, I think it started blooming at the beginning of February.

Very impressive for no tripod, and you are fortunate to have such a beautiful tree so early.

I think this is a great picture. I love the portrait style picture when the field of depth is very small so the background is blurred.

The only thing that bothers me about it is there are parts of the tree that I think 'should' be more blurred to match the background but didnt get blurred due to its close proximity with the bird. Mainly right by its tail and also on the top left.

If those two areas were blurred a little more to match the background but the bird and the small flower next to its head remained crisp... perfect.

Amazing photo even without what I mentioned. Very nice.
