I need to create an image that will be part of a wrap for a truck, it's size will about 2ft x 3ft. I am doing it in Photoshop. It's been a long time since I've done something this large, and can't remember how to set this up. What would be the proper pixels and size?

I hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance!

Doesn't it depend on the dpi of your printer?

300dpi printer - 24inches wide sign = 7200 pixels wide (10,800 height)

Image size =7200/72 ppi = 100 inches (x 150 inches)

That's silly!

Errr

I dunno :)

Most large billboard or banner companies request the files be 1/2 or 1/4 scale at 300 ppi.

it really all depends upon the manufacturer of the wrap ldg. You might want to give them a quick call.

Thanks guys! Dave- always useful info! Jolt- I knew it was something like that, just couldn't remember the proper scale. (this is where Daves info comes in handy) This job is almost to deadline and still the client hasn't given me a printer to contact yet. So I am winging it here! Do you suppose that a approx size- 10"x 7" x 300 dpi will work without pixelation? Reason I ask is, This is as large as I can get for the source image with out pixelation. If it's not big enough, I'll have to break down and buy an image. Which would eat 1/3 of my profit.

What would I do with out PA?? How did I ever function before? :) Thanks in advance!

Honestly... I'd call ANY sign company that does similar work and ask what their requirements would be.

And... why wouldn't you pass along costs of images to the client? It's standard practice. Purchasing items to complete an assignment should never come out of your fee.

ldg .... I tried to create an image 24x36 @300dpi .... it blew smoke out of the top of my 'puter :)

My experience always showed me that an on screen image printed at 600dpi came out much bigger on paper than it was on screen .....

I'm lost! :)

Your right Jolt...I'll have to call someone. This job is one of those foot in the door ones. I gave them a very low quote. I'd make a bundle if I could do it without purchased pics. But they know their getting a deal and having their account would be a dream come true. They do on the fly, super short deadline, advertisments several times a month. They are the #1 radio station around here. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed!

Smoke out the puter Dave! lol! When I do boxing posters, they are 11x17, 300dpi, and with the all the layers, they get up to 250+ megs in size. They ol' Mac starts moaning!

The white background starter image was 225Mb .... tried to add a bit of text, that started the smoke .... :)

Heaven help me if I'd gone for a multi-layered PSD file!

Do your best to wow em whatever it takes. Once they realize they can't live without you, can charge what you're worth. I'll be rooting for your success like the rest of PA.

BTW. Awesome job on the dinasaurs! I've always kept my voting between 5 and 9, but you wowed in into my first 10 on that one.

Yep,...

So Ldg, ... How did you handle it, is it done ?

This thread is very interresting... For my part, I often have to do "stickers job", working with a printer that is working with colored vynil...he always ask for vectorized files because of his cutting-machine...

Just for the tip.

I posted the finished project in the general forum under Daves thread about the amazing mind. I never did receive any specs from a printer. So I had to just wing it. I just built the bugger as large as my computer could handle it. Jolt would be proud to know that I stepped out of my comfort zone and built the map in Illustrator. Then finished it in PS. I submitted eight proofs and 3 total design re-works on this, trying to please 3 different people with 3 different ideas. Lost my butt on this one as well! But everyone is delighted and have already hired me for more projects! And since they now know my work, are more than willing to pay double than they did for last 2 jobs. We all went into it knowing that I was giving them a killer deal. There is much to be said, about getting your foot in the door!
