I made a couple small tweaks....

Uploads no longer REQUIRE 500 pixels wide. If your image is smaller, it will not get enlarged. However, we do still encourage you to upload images that are at least 500 pixels wide whenever possible. This will simply no longer effect the quality if you upload a slightly smaller image.

And image comments.....

There's a new box when entering a contest. This box, when checked will display a message above the comment box of your image. "Please do not critique this image." See image below. If you do not check the box when entering, nothing will display, allowing everyone to comment at will on your image.

Sooner or later someone will ask...might as well get it outta the way:

Can a user remove the "Do Not Critique" after submitting?

Can a user add "Do Not Critique" after submitting?

Nope...can't change your mind after you upload, so make SURE what you want when you upload!

will the images in the old contest be put up to the correct size? or will they stay 500 pixels wide? unless it was something my brain confused by 6 BIG tests every week didnt understand?

This is NOT retroactive. Images that were uploaded in the past will remain the way they were uploaded. New images uploaded from now on will change.

Who could ever forget about Eeyore. Have you ever read The Tao of Pooh (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0140067477/qid=1107898211/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9702340-3176744?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)? It's delightfully entertaining and insightful.

Does this mean that the cage match images for the crew pic no longer have to minimum 500px wide?

Scott
02/08/2005, 03:35 PM
Yes, that is correct MrRaven. Smaller images will be okay. Just remember the PA watermark will always appear in the bottom left corner so leave appropriate room in your image so it doesn't cover anything vital.

Yeah, it does mean that, but remember that the smaller the image, the harder it is for voters to see the work that goes into the image. We still STRONGLY suggest that people upload images at LEAST 500 pixels wide. You'll see, by comments from other small images uploaded, that they are voted lower than images that are large enough to really see the details.

Just something to consider. :)

off-hand... 205 x 35 I think D Rock.

So leave an extra 35 pixels or so at the bottom to compensate for it.

Scott

it's 200 x 31 specifically.. I checked.. so 35 should be good.

Thanks Jolt for the great tweaks you made. change of subject - where's our chat room?

Scott
02/08/2005, 07:07 PM
Chat room was always dead... I'm working on coding a flash interface for a site supported chat.. no need for IRC.

Sounds like a good plan. IRC is banned at my job which is my primary method of surfing PA. Flash is a great way to go.

That sounds great! I'd love to talk to people in real time here. Hopefully more people would be interested in chatting if the changes work out well.
