First of all congragulations to twoinjune, libra and siouxie on there wins........
Asking for a little feed back on this border breakout. This was my first try and it was a little harder than I expected. I took the advice from the comments some people left (like putting the shadow inbounds and using less blur on the edges) and did a quick revision but I still don't get it. (Maybe I should have used a different source)
I am still trying to incorporate the ideas that libra and down2earth suggested and will repost it once I figure it out....
My advise still stands on the missing part of his foot, I appreciated that it may not have been in the original image, you need to try to paint it in to complete the picture, sometimes just cutting away the bits you don't want is not enough, you have to add what's needed too.

Castertroy, hi there... now if I were using that image, I would have used the wall as the area to 3D breakout from, it has a lot more interest in it. Ideally it is also the biggest area to utilise and the 'standing' hand and foot could have been doing the breaking out. The top unfinished foot could have been cut off into the frame if necessary.
Just done this quickly in 5 mins using your pictures as a basic idea... (nothing wrong with your source picture btw ;-)

My suggestions was to make the hand look a little deeper into the frame. This is what I was thinking about.
