does anyone know how to create a polaroid transfew look in Photoshop? I have already seen Julianne Kost's tutorial but i am looking for a more muted color approach--one that looks as if the color has been muted due to the paper it is on.

hm sorry donīt quite understand what you mean, maybe a link to the tutorial you saw whould be helpful (merlin am i weird :'shake': )
It would *really* help if you have an example of the look you're trying to achieve. Is there a photo of an actual Polaroid transfer anywhere online?

Julianne Kost's tutorials are on CD so you won't find it on the web to link to Siouxie.
In general to change the overall tone of an image I'd use a hue/saturation adjustment layer or the photo filter adjustment layer new to Photoshop CS.
It would be easier if we saw where you're at and where you're trying to get to as an example.

I also don't really understand the question, but at a rough guess, you may be able to achieve the look you're after either through the Levels or Variations commands.
