I have several old photos that were printed on some kind of textured paper. After scanning they look like the below sample. Any ideas on a good fix for these? I've tried some blurring set to lighten to tone down the darker parts, then blurring set to darken to tone down the lighter parts. I had some improvement, but not terrific results.

I'm not sure there's a quick solution d2e2, I scanned an image from a book cover and had to manually remove the half-tone with the blur tool, it's a pain!

Wellllllllllll ..... the photographer had got the shakes and couldn't focus properly, I guess I could have tried a sharpen filter, the file is an amazingly mega 4.4Kb ..... not a lot to work with after all :)

I have the same type of photo textures. It's a real pain to remove but you could use www.neatimage.com to do it. It's a free app.

Thanks all for your advice! Took me a while to figure out how to install and use a plug-in, but I finally got the neatimage plug-in going. The free version is somewhat limited and I haven't yet really figured out how to use all the controls, but it worked pretty well. Posted first (I hope) is the original scan; second, is with one application of neatimage; third, is a second application on a new level then reducing its opacity 50%.

Dave, I couldn't find any moire pattern removal tool, filter, or anything else. It this a technique you know?

I was confused at first too. Turns out he uses PaintShopPro. That's probably why you couldnt' find it if you use photoshop.

Ahh. Oh well. Looking around never hurts. I don't have to look too far before I start discovering things I didn't know.
