Backing up Images on DVD-R?

I have some new memorex DVD-R disks and I am wanting to back up some photos on them. I don't need them displayed in a slideshow or anything, just wanting to back them up. I have an internal dvd burner, and dvd burner software.
Is it even possible to backup pics on DVD-R discs?

James, yes it is. All DVD-Rs can act as data storage.

of course, just burn them the same way as u would do a cd-r

You can get an awful lot of images on a CD, make an index of them and/or put them into memorable directories. You'll be thankful you did some day.

I could get around 250 images from my camera on a CD, less if they're RAW

Yeah, it's been less than a year on my harddrive and I've taken about 7 gigs.
Infact, sense thanks giving I've taken about 1.5 thousand.
