Well. My friend and I are making a book about my friend nicknamed Fog. He's a long haired, rock loving, self-proclaimed psudo-intellectual.
My friend Scott and I are making this book for him, and I can't quite get the cover right. I don't need anyone to work on a cover, I am just in need of suggestions.
YOu don't have to be nice, I don't care. Just tell me what you think would make it better. ;)

Well, I suppose I ought to show you some text from inside of the book If I am to ask for help. It will also show you what kind of guy he is. He's very amusing.
FOG QUOTES
In September, I believe I pondered that and then in February or
January -sometime around there, I pondered that again. (fog is
referring to how long tenth grade was)
my room changed appearance significantly, the beginning of a new
mentality. I know it looks like I'm trying to speak in a very profound
manner and that it looks overly pretentious, and that is a correct
assumption, but when I'm tired and am not able of analyze my post
sufficiently, the supposed grandiloquence takes its place.
One day, I will be fluent in Spanish and Russian. I may be thrity five
by that time, but I will be righteous.
I can sympathize. The only movie I can remember crying in was the
movie about the ape called "Buddy". I'm sure I wanted to cry in a lot
of movies, but never thought to do so.
I'm glad that such a cult classic was remembered by somebody other than myself.
END FOG QUOTES
(FOg likes to understand a lot of strange ideas, and be someone who "gets it" Psudo-Intellectuals are like this. It is very funny. You can see them wearing emo goggles. They always think they are in tune with the world, and "appreciate the cosure things" When something Cult becomes popular, he becomes upset)

the font is not that bad, but if focuses on the top part, the word Fog is to low, it should be more in the middle and maybe not that shiny through thing
i would suggest to put the words "the wonderful book of" in just one row and to make it a bit smaller
like the picture, looks really foggy :D

Why those two vertical black lines ?
Picture is great, not sure about the font and for the text placement:
it's about point of impact, hope it helps.

Well for what it's worth I love the pic of the ferris wheel although it's colour seems a bit cold. I prefer your second version. I find it hard to explain things so I did up a quicky version. Not sure if the proportions are correct or not, but I think a pseudo-intellectual would prefer a different style of font. Myself I am not crazy over outlined text, although it does has it's place.
Of course everyone has their own taste. Hopefully it will give you at least a different perspective on it, as there are always a million solutions to any given problem.

You are awesome! What are those fonts? This is great. I guess a color like that does work better.
Wow....

Thanks James, "Fog" is honest John's Shadow, I can not remember where I found it, and the rest is Kabel. You do not necessarily have to use these fonts to get the same basic "feel". Experiment with different fonts. Some fonts will go together in combination than others. Look for similarities ( note that the letter "O" is round in both in my example) or something completely contrasting.
Rarely will I know right off the bat what fonts I will use, as I do not know fonts all that well, there are simply too many to keep track of. Of course we all have our favorites, but I find half the fun of working with type is the challenge it sometimes poses.
Hope this has been of some help.

Thanks a lot burndog. You're awesome.
Here's the almost finished version. I couldn't seem to find anything better as far as fonts are concerned.
Burndog, you will get credit for the cover. It is non profit though so, yeah. Anyway, this is the almost finished version. I've put fog on the ferris wheel I tried to change it a little.

Changed a font. I like the way the B fits the crevice (spelling?) of the F

I like it although I think the color is a bit overpowering for the book theme. Maybe a little more like the color of the first image. The text is good, also in my opinion a bit overpowering. Maybe making the letters transparent or another color other than plain white. Also the position of the text, as it sets now, is covering the main theme of the book, FOG. This may not seem right ot you right off the bat but try moving the text towards the lower left side where the fog isn't as strong. I think you'll have more impact.
Take my suggestions with a grain of salt. They are only my opinions. I'd like to see more of this book though. Good work so far.
