Just something that I randomly thought about when I was bored here are work....
a tournament style contest, one on one, winner moves on to the next round to go against another winner. Set up bracket style like NFL playoffs. Each round could have the same category (illustration, photography, etc.) but each match would have different topics in that category.
Like it? Hate it?

Love it! Maybe we could plan it for after the holidays when folks aren't so busy. :)
I love the idea! We did a small scale version of that in a four-way cage match. I totally enjoyed it!

Well, the holidays are over, how about a tourney?

This would be fun...but we'd need enough people to commit to it. I'd hate to run a small tournament and have everyone back out. :)

What would the minimum be, (approx.) 16 ppl or so? Why not post a list and see who signs up?

And, of course, I'll jump in. ;)

You mean you'd take the dive?

For a single elimination you'd need 8 or 16 people. If you end up with 5, 6, or 7, maybe a round-robin would work: One match with each person. 13 or 14 people would make a long tounament.
That would also get around the problem of having the first match be the kind of thing a person was especially weak doing, and being eliminated without a real chance.
There's also the possibility of a double elimination (you have to lose twice to be eliminated). I think that works with numbers other than 8 and 16. There may be times one player would get a "bye" in a round.

THE dive, yes. A dive, no. :D
Who else is in?
+ I like the idea of double elim. but it would be very long. I think single elim. with a random draw for 16 ppl (with a bye - also random) would be good. And if enough time was allocated, everyone could put their best foot forward. It would probably take about two weeks to complete.
See how many you get before you start worrying about eliminators and byes. It's pure speculation until the contest goes ahead.
So far only two people have committed to the contest .... (D2E2 you didn't)

Honestly... How about more participation in the contests we have going now? Why run a tournament when we don't have that much participation as things are? I'd prefer to wait until every contest we run is getting at least 10 entries.
Good point Jolt .... just trying to get some novel idea for the extreme sport contest .... then find the right images ....

Yes, good point Jolt, I had no idea. I just figured that since I think this is the best site on the i-net, everybody else would think so, too. But since it's just us, Dave, there's always the cage... Muaaahahahahaaaa

You can have a cage match with 4 entries...:) Or have a cage match with 2 on 2...I give an image and each team of two work on their entry together. Or a cage match with 2 with the winner taking on the third party...:)
See...lots of combinations!

Good thinking, I'm up for anything right now (although I prefer 1on1 at a time.) I don't mind getting my butt kicked if I learn something in the process. You all know where to reach me. :)

My suggestion...post in the Cage Match area and ask if anyone wants to rumble...:D I'm sure someone will take you up on it. :)

I was hesitating until I saw what kind of time commitment it would be. I'm definately interested, but a long-term c-c-commitment?
Well challenge D-Rock to a cage match .... and take it from there.
If we talk tournament at some point in the future you would have to allow at least one week per round, so if there's 16 people that's 4 weeks maximum. But that's for the future.

I was thinking the other day, would a 'proper' Photoshop Tennis match work, ie. an extended cage match between 2 people where an image is supplied and altered over a specified period, each 'round' (a choice would be available, say 4 - 16) being voted on as an intermediate score and then, once the contest ends, those scores are added to a final vote.
