Not that it's my place, but you could always start with something easy like desktop/wallpapers and pick an emotion or word to theme it.

Example:
size: 1024x768 px
theme: Clean

And don't you worry- I won't be bummed if you don't like the suggestion!

You guys could always try the Google challenge. It goes like this...

You get assigned a color, mood, year and random word. Then you google for the images and make a collage. We could assign them or you guys could pick them amongst yourselves.

That sounds like a good idea! Maybe the entries should be sceenshots of the desktop in place? Sort it out between yourselves and post the details back here.

How about a Google challenge for a desktop/wallpaper that becomes a photo challenge by taking pictures of your new desktop :D

ok so we will run with that then...the google challenge for desktop/wallpaper with the final presentation as a screenshot.

question... when doing a google challenge are we allowed to include other images along with what we found, or is the rule to SRICTLY use only pics from the 4 words?

i havent done one of these before...

Just the four words are allowed to be used...at least that is my understanding of how it works. Also with the year you'll return lots of hits like 123-1919.jpeg that could be anything like people at a birthday party from last year. I avoided those and looked for something that would have been from that actual year.

The theme is lots of fun but it can be difficult to decide on which images to use...so many to choose from.

one more dumb question though: are we allowed to change the image? for example: color, blending modes, filters, ect...just let me know and i'll start the collage...

You can do whatever you like to the images, just as long as they are one of the ones you download.

I need to know for definite what the submission dates are. There will be no more random extensions on time. If one or both entries aren't submitted by the deadline, the contest will be considered nullified.
