So lately I've been listening to a lot of audio books. The kind that help with organizing and getting things straightened out on multiple levels. Franklin Covey and David Allen are big on organization and goal setting and frankly, so am I. But lately I've been feeling like there's no way to organize the mass collection of ideas, to-do's and other stuff that resides in my head. It's all a mish-mash and it can become quite frustrating and overwhelming very quickly. Especially if you don't offload it.
So I started to do some searches for software that will take down ideas and notes in crazy ways. Luckily, I stumbled upon a blog that mentioned www.Nova-Mind.com (osx) and www.MindMapper.com (osx, Win & $$$). Me being an open-sourced kind of guy, I tried looking for something open-source and free. I stumbled upon FreeMind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net).
I must say this is really interesting stuff and worth checking out.
A public example of someone's "Mind Map" (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/PublicMaps.html)
That same example exported to HTML (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/PublicMaps-exported.html)
Now I have a way of documenting crazy thoughts, projects and ideas in a hierarchical format that's easily and universally publishable. Not that anyone would want to see the jumbled mess of my mind ;)
On a separate note, what do you use to keep track of thoughts, ideas and projects? PDA, computer app, good ole planner? I'm curious about the various methods that artists and creatives use.
