Getting skin tones right is a puzzle for beginners like me. Plus when I finally get it about right, it's a bit weird that every person in the photo has exactly the same skin tones.
I just discovered a good source for skin tones at www.retouchpro.com. You can download Bruce Beard's Skin and Hair Color Reference Charts. If you use PaintShop Pro or Photoshop, you can load these into your color palettes to select from.
You can also start collecting your own skin tones by selecting an area of skin from a properly adjusted photo, blur it with Gaussian Blur, and save it for future use.
